I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to each and every child that has put this together and also the Friends of Crowmoor Primary School team for making this priceless gift. It’s been my pleasure to support and work alongside so many amazing students for the past 5 years, but I wouldn’t of be able to do this if it wasn’t for the help and support from all the amazing parents/carers and school staff. I wish you all the success in moving forward with your fundraising journey and I will continue to support you wherever I can ❤️

We have had a super week reading the story ‘Tiddler’ by Julia Donaldson. The children have written some great excuses for Tiddler to give his teacher for why he’s late and also drawn and written about their own characters who could help rescue Tiddler from a crisis.
In Maths they have been adding and subtracting within 10 using first, then, now stories, fishing for creatures in the water and finding shells in the sand.
PE continues to be on Fridays. Please ensure children are wearing school uniform on all other days please.
You will notice the children have brought two reading books home this week. One is their usual Bug Club book and the other is their Little Wandle book that they have read in school in their group reads and have now brought home to share with you. Please ensure both books are in their book bags alongside their reading record every day. We hope you enjoy listening to them read their LW books.
This next week Thursday 2nd May we are having a special Pirate and Mermaids Day where children are invited to dress up as Pirates or Mermaids for the day. Please don’t feel you need to buy anything new, many outfits can be easily put together using things you already have. If you have any queries about this please email the class email beech@crowmoorschool.co.uk
Have a lovely weekend
Miss Jones & Mrs Kenny
This week has gone so fast! There seemed to be a bit of a sickness bug going around at the beginning of the week but everyone is back up to strength now. We are really trying to encourage the children to have good hygiene habits. There are always tissues in the classroom for them to use to clean or blow their nose and we ask them to wash their hands afterwards. They are asked not to pick their nose.
I am sure that some of you will have heard about our sandwich making for Mr Grinling in ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. We have identified verbs in the text and used imperative verbs to write instructions.
The children are all working hard to build their ‘Power Pack’. This is their core strength which is needed for neat handwriting. Ask them to show you these poses: Bear, Meerkat, Penguin and Lizard. They have also learnt finger exercises to build the muscles needed to control a pencil.
We have found out that one of the best items to use as a whiteboard cleaner is an old sock as they can put it over their none writing hand. If anyone can spare any CLEAN old odd socks for this purpose, it would be greatly appreciated. Please send them in.
Thank you so much for promptly returning all the Little Wandle reading books. Some children are keeping them in their trays at school so that we can be confident that the books are in school everyday for reading sessions. All the adults in Chestnut Class are very impressed with the progress in the children’s reading. Please keep it up!
In maths we have completed our unit on Fractions. All children can find half of a number using equipment and most can find one quarter of a number by sharing into four equal parts. Next week we will be learning about position and direction.
The children may have talked about ‘Alien Words’. These are made up words made from phonemes that they have been taught. The pupils are told to always spot the digraphs first, then blend the word, rather than trying to read the word on sight.
For example: terp, slone, toaf, paith.
PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Have a fab weekend,
Mrs Dowell, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Savory
Good afternoon,
This week the children have produced some amazing diary entries from the perspective of a character in short film who goes on a little journey. The children have really shown their descriptive vocabulary, cohesion and wide use of punctuation.
In maths we have finished our unit on algebra and have moved on to looking at shape, in particular this week we have revisited measuring angles and explored different ways of working out angles in a triangle.
For geography we continued our look across Europe and the children compared other countries landscapes to the UKs. During science we looked at the work of Marie Maynard Daly.
One child who has done very well this week, who has contributed to class discussions and is this week’s Golden Certificate winner is Allegra – congratulations.
Please keep encouraging the children to read and keep up with their home learning.
I hope you have a great weekend,
Mr Reynolds, Mrs Davies and Miss Nicholas
A huge well done to all the children in Hazel Class for their hard work and determination this week! We have written our own openings to our class text, using ambitious vocabulary, similes and list sentences. The children shared and edited them with their peers. Everyone was positive and kind about their peer’s work and we had a suoer session sharing ideas. In Science we learned about the different types of skeleton animals have – ask your child for some of the fun facts we found out.
Also a big congratulations to the children who made imense improvements in their spelling scores, a little practise really does go a long way.
PE will be Monday and Wednesday next week.
Have a great weekend and remember – Read, read, read!
Miss Roberts and Miss Harris
Good afternoon everyone!
Hope the sunshine is here to stay, think we are all in need of a break from the rain.
On the note of sunshine, it is starting to warm up in the classroom and the children are starting to drink more. Can I please encourage you to send your child into school with a water bottle. They do have access to water but their own water bottle is preferred.
This week we have been looking at our new book ‘How to train your Dragon’. It has linked really well to our Science as we have planted our very own seeds this week. We have set up an experiment to see if different conditions impact plant growth. The children then used their plant knowledge to write a set of instructions in English based on growing their very own Dragon!!
In Maths, we have finished we finished our block on fractions. The children have all done very well in this topic and have really developed their understanding of finding 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4. They then moved onto look at equivalence and even used fractions to find parts of a whole number. They have all worked super hard and I am very impressed.
Reading has taken a little bit of a slow down of the past few weeks. Can I please encourage you to be reading with your child at home at least three times a week but preferably every night. It really is so important. Thank you.
In Art we have designed African celebratory masks that we are going to make next week. In Geography we researched the Kenyan Big 5 and looked at what it means if an animal is endangered or near extinction. In History we have discovered all about the lady of flight – Amelia Earhart. The children loved learning about her plane and her impressive journey.
Well done to Charlie for being our golden certificate winner this week. Charlie has read at home every night this week! Well done Charlie!!
Have a fab weekend!
Don’t forget to READ READ READ!!
Miss Shadbolt and Mrs E 🙂
In English, we have began to write a setting description, ready to write a description of a Mayan jungle next week. The children have put a massive focus this week on ensuring they are using powerful adjectives, relative clauses and colons in their writing.
In Maths, we have been looking at our new unit on ‘Position and Direction’, where the children have focused on coordinates and beginning to translate shapes.
During the afternoons, we have completed some great activities, which we have displayed in our floorbook. With us approaching the summer months, in PSHE we discussed the importance of getting out in the sun and the benefits it can have, whilst also considering the precautions we must take.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Rosie. She has written some fantastic sentences when practicing using relative clauses and colons in English. Well Done Rosie!
Have a great weekend,
Miss Hipkiss and Miss Davies
