Test 3.5.24
In English, we have began to write a setting description, ready to write a description of a Mayan jungle next week. The children have put a massive focus this week on ensuring they are using powerful adjectives, relative clauses and colons in their writing.
In Maths, we have been looking at our new unit on ‘Position and Direction’, where the children have focused on coordinates and beginning to translate shapes.
During the afternoons, we have completed some great activities, which we have displayed in our floorbook. With us approaching the summer months, in PSHE we discussed the importance of getting out in the sun and the benefits it can have, whilst also considering the precautions we must take.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Rosie. She has written some fantastic sentences when practicing using relative clauses and colons in English. Well Done Rosie!
Have a great weekend,

This week in English, we have expressed our views on whether animals should be kept in zoos. We have produced some great arguments and backed up our points using evidence that we have researched.
In Maths, we have continued our unit on shape. We have looked at how to calculate the angles in shapes using our knowledge of angles around a point and on a straight line.
In History, we researched the 6 main Mayan Gods. We found out their names, what they are a God of, the meaning of their name and any interesting facts about them. The children were fantastic at making links to our end of the day story.
Our Golden Certificate Winner this week is Noah. He has made some excellent improvements in his handwriting this week. Well done!
Have a great weekend!

Welcome back for the Summer term! Only this term to go until the children are in Year 6!
We have made a great start to this week though looking at angles in Maths. The children have found out the different types of angles, classified them and even practiced measuring them using protractors.
In English, we have made a start to our debate writing. We began by looking at a debate, which was trying to persuade the BBC to create a Match of the Day programme for women’s football. We picked this apart and discussed the persuasive language being used. This week, we have written a debate about whether children should have to wear school uniform. The children came up with some great ideas, whilst using rhetorical questions to address the reader and keep them hooked. Next week, we will be developing our debate writing skills and posing the question ‘Should animals be kept in zoos?’.
In the afternoons, we have started our new topic on Ancient Maya. We kicked off the week by looking at the continents North and South America and narrowing down in Central America where the Mayans lived.
Our Golden Certificate this week is Karla! She made a fantastic effort to find the Mayan cities and locate these on her map in Geography and History. Well Done Karla!
Have a great weekend
