There is a local Charity, run by mums in Shrewsbury, called Bags of Kindness. They can provide school shoes, trainers and toddler shoes to parents. They are second hand shoes in very good condition, with lots of life left, that have been donated at various shoe shops around town. Parents can message Bags of Kindness on their Facebook page or use the link below. Please state the type of shoe/trainer you require and the size.
We have had a busy but great week in Year 3! This week we have welcomed Miss Peate to the Year 3 team, she will be completing her teaching placement with us and she is looking forward to working with all of the children during this time.
In Maths, we have been continuing with our fractions learning, this week we have been looking at fractions of a number and equivalent fractions. The children worked really hard with this and used fractions walls to support them with finding equivalent fractions.
In Literacy, we have been looking at the features of a Newspaper report focusing on, adverbs, speech and technical vocabulary. I was impressed with the children’s ability to use a dictionary to find definitions to technical vocabulary inked to Romans.
This term, P.E will be on Thursdays. The children need to come into school in their kit.
Thank you for your parents evening responses, you will receive an email next week with a timeslot and TEAMS link.
Enjoy the Bank holiday, we will see you all on Tuesday!
Miss Bliss, Miss Peate, Mrs Davies and Mrs Evason
Hello everyone, what a difference a bit of sunshine makes! It is still quite cool at playtimes, if the sun goes in, so please continue to send the children with coats. They can always take it off if it gets too warm. A water bottle is also very important as the weather warms up.
This week we have started to learn lots of facts about India. The children have enjoyed looking at our new library books to do their research. Next week we will start to write paragraphs ready for our information posters.
In maths, we are working hard to understand multiplication. The children are improving on their times tables facts but there is still a lot of work to be done before they are fluent. Please help them as much as you can. I will start to send home activities and tasks to help with this.
Later in the term, we will be having a visit from a Bollywood Dance teacher who will work with the children to learn a dance routine. COVID restrictions permitting, the following week, you will be invited to join in with us!
Over the weekend, I will start to send out the TEAMS invites for Parent’s Evening. This may take a while as each meeting will be set up individually, so if you don’t have an appointment through at the same time as a friend does, don’t worry! If you have not yet sent in your letter, please do so as soon as possible.
Have a fabulous extended weekend and we’ll see you all on Tuesday!
Mrs Dowell and Mrs Armstrong
Well week 2 of Summer term has flown by! The children have been doing some super writing in literacy, writing captions for the Elmer pictures they ordered last week, then they have been practising writing lots of describing words to write about Elmer and the other grey elephants too.
In Maths we have continued looking at numbers beyond ten, recognising them as one 10 and a number of ones. We have also been doing some estimating and the children were brilliant at recognising if an amount was ‘more’ or ‘fewer’ than ten, showing all the hard work they have put in on subitising is paying off! 😁
We have also started to explore a little more about India following the children’s interests, looking briefly at the weather, capital city, the most famous landmark, food, animals and clothes. We will continue this over the next few weeks in more detail and are planning to create our own class book, all about India. Thank you to those who helped their child access their email and complete the India quiz. We will be doing more fun things like this in future, so watch out for announcements on our page. 😊
Our certificate winner this week is Declan – well done!
Just a little reminder to ensure you record in your child’s reading record every time they read with you. Books are changed after the second recorded read so if it is only recorded once it will not be changed.
PE continues to be on Fridays this term so please send your child to school wearing their PE kit every Friday.
Hope you have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend. 😊
Miss Jones, Mrs Millichamp and Mrs Kenny
The children have been working hard this week and have really got in to our Geography and Science topics.
In English we have been looking at some of the aspects of newspaper reports and in Maths we have continued to look at decimals and rounding.
Thank you for all of your responses for parent’s evening, I will be sorting out the Teams invitations over this Bank Holiday weekend.
Please keep encouraging the children to read at home daily, it is making a huge difference.
Hope you have a safe and restful weekend,
Mr Reynolds and Mrs Martin
The poster says it all… we had a fabulous “Mexican Day” on Thursday but we were all shattered on Friday! Thank you for helping to dress your children in the colours of the Mexican flag – they looked incredibly colourful – we have some great photos! Watch this space for the pic collages the children have made to advertise the day. The children enjoyed making Chili Con Carnie, sour cream dip and salsa which was then followed by doughnuts dipped in chocolate, cinnamon and sugar and finally a drink of pineapple, orange and lemon juice. I hope the children will share their new skills and help you out when it comes to peeling and chopping salads and vegetables over the coming weeks. They also completed some sensational pieces of art work which will be displayed in the classroom – well done to Mya, you received the Golden Certificate for your stunning pic collage!
As a lead into our science next term we collected the seeds from the peppers and the chilies and the stones from the avocado, next week we hope to plant them. We also have some marigolds to plant to cheer up the area outside our classroom.
We will continue to work on decimals in maths and complete our posters in literacy. The guided reading groups are working well. No spellings this week but watch this space next week.
Thank you for completing the parent evening slips: you will receive an email next week with your TEAMS time slot. We have tried our very best with the times we have allocated you – it will be a new experience for us all keeping to allocated times.
We hope you all have a super Bank Holiday weekend. If the weather falls cold reading together as a family is a real treat. Stay safe and enjoy the extra day at home.
Mrs.P. Ms Allison, Mrs smith and Ms Nicholas xxx
We have had a great week researching facts about India, so that we can write information booklets. We have also enjoyed using Google Earth to virtually visit places in India. We have also located major Indian cities on a map. in maths we have been making and adding equal groups. We have been learning how to double numbers. During the afternoons we listened to Blues music by B.B King, finding the beat and talking about how the music made us feel. Today we have been thinking about things in the world that make us say wow! I will be sending parents evening times out over the weekend and have put new activities on Mathletics for the children to try.
Please remember to send your child with a water bottle everyday. Thank you
Mixed weather this week but it hasn’t stopped us having a busy and full week.
Arthog and Hoodie letters went out recently. Please return ASAP, if you haven’t already. Arthog is always a fantastic experience and I can understand the excitement the children feel. We have spent some time talking about it to alleviate any queries and in the hope that they are now well informed as to what to expect.
In Literacy we continued with our Quest work and the children wrote about the adventures and trials of Bynolf. In Maths we continued our algebra study and I have been really impressed with the way the children have taken to it.
In History we studied the Mayan Gods and the children researched their characteristics. In conjunction with our Mexican study the children learnt more about America as a continent. We started our well-being and mental health sessions with Mel; over the next month we will learn how to handle our feelings and what we can do when we feel overwhelmed.
I will add the answers to the homework I set earlier in the week later today or on Saturday. I forgot to give the homework slip out last Friday but gave it out on Monday instead. The new slip will go out today for completion over the next week.
Have a super long weekend. I am hoping for good weather; I have many outside jobs that need completing!
Mr Wilmot and Mrs Carroll-Lewis
School Class photos will take place on Tuesday 4th May. All children must wear School uniform on this day. If they have PE or After School Club on that day, then they will be able to take part in their uniform.
School will be closed on Monday 3rd May for the Bank Holiday. We will return on Tuesday 4th May.
Enjoy the long weekend!
