Hello everyone!

Another lovely week in Beech. Our time together is zooming past and we are enjoying every minute. This week has been jam packed with learning, activities and Nativity rehearsals.

In phonics, we have learnt v w x y. 
The children have all got letter formation and pronunciation sheets for the phonemes and graphemes learnt this week. Please encourage the children to do these at home. We have been checking reading diaries and there have been lots of reading at home! Please can you encourage your child to read 3x a week with an adult or older sibling and note it down in the yellow reading record. This will allow us to then change their books. Thank you.

In English, we have looked at the book “Stickman” by Julia Donaldson. The children have drawn some great pictures of Stickman and his family tree and thought of lots of ways we could rescue him from the fireplace. They all had a go at sounding out Stickman in their books as they recognised the digraph ck. Very impressed with all of their hard work this week. 

In Maths, we have been looking at 4 and 5. We have looked at how 4 and 5 can be made using different amounts and then added together. We used lots of practical activities to learn all about the composition. Here is an example of the part whole model splitting 5 up.

We have done lots of practising for our Nativity play, please can you ensure all costumes are in by next Friday. We have looked at ways we can keep the environment safe for Stickman and his family tree. The children shared some great ideas about keeping the world safe eg; recycling, not setting fires, watering the trees in the hot sun and not littering. We also explored the Divali festival. We made rangoli patterns in the coloured sand, made temples in construction and designed henna hand art. We talked about how other cultures celebrate different occasions and compared them to ones we celebrate.

A letter has been sent home tonight regarding the new ‘Parent Pay’ system. Please make sure you look at it and set your accounts up ready for Monday. Thank you.

We have had a great first week back in Beech class. It was lovely to hear about all of the Halloween activities you all got up too and the fireworks that you had all seen. Was great to share the excitement with the children.

In phonics this week we have been busy recapping the sounds that we know and have really emphasised on the segmenting and blending process. Please encourage your child to blend at home. The children all need to be reading their decodable books 3x a week at home and it needs to be jotted down in their reading diary by an adult or an older sibling. Once it’s been read 3x we can swap it for them.

Maths has been circles and triangles. We have been on a circle and triangle hunt in our outdoor area. We had a go at making our own art based on Wassily Kandinsky. We then moved onto looking at positional language. We took some teddies out around the classroom. We put them over the table, under the chair, next to the bin, near the door and behind each other and in front of the door. Please encourage to use this language with your children. 

We have been super busy in the afternoons, we have looked at Makaton symbols and how to communicate with children who do not use the language we do. We have looked at what clothes to wear in the Autumn and how to keep warm now the weather is changing. We also had a long chat about how the nights get darker earlier. We started our new music block about Traditional Tales, we have even started to use musical instruments.

In honour of Remembrance Day, we read the story “Where the Poppies Now Grow”. We talked about how the poppies now grow on the fields of Flanders in France and Belgium where the war once battled. We then made our own collage poppies that we have turned into a lovely display in our hallway. 

Congratulations to Dominic, who is our Golden Certificate winner this week. Dominic has made some fantastic choices this week, has been trying so hard to segment and blend his words and has been doing some great work in English and Maths. Well done, Dominic 😁.

The first week of December will be the week that we do our Christmas Nativity play. We will be sending out role lists and things we may need next week. Thanks for your support.

Hello everyone – hope you’ve all day a nice week.

A real autumnal week in Beech class. We have enjoyed looking at the crispy leaves, seeing the raindrops and the squirrels have been super busy in our outside area. We had great fun painting the silhouettes of autumnal objects. This is showing the great colour mixing and the careful panting of the silhouette.

In phonics we have done g o c k. The children have all got the next letter formation practice sheets in their book bags. Please make sure they are practising. The children have also got wordless books in their bags, can you please encourage your child to share the story with you at least 3 times per week and can you note down that you’ve done this in the reading diary. Encourage your children to recognise sounds that they know. The more time they see it the more confident they will be.

In Maths this week we have finished sorting, comparing and matching. The children have been so good at organising them into different groups, heights and sorts. Please encourage your child to talk about their learning at home 😃.

The children really enjoyed categorising materials this week. They shared some great vocabulary during the activity.

Well done to Elijah, for winning the golden certificate this week. He has show some excellent listening skills, great maths work and has been trying super hard to write and form his letters.
