Hazel Class Weekly Newsletter 13.5.22

Hello everyone,

In Literacy, we have planned, written and performed our own play scripts. The children have really impressed me with their understanding of the layout of a play script and also their creative plays/ performances were great to see!

In Maths, we have been learning about position and directions, understanding coordinates. We have really enjoyed this unit, particularly moving objects on a grid.

In Science this week, we carried out an investigation on melting, different food items to test the melting times. Including chocolate, which we then used to make cornflake cakes and froze the chocolate back to a solid.

Can I please remind you that when children come in their P.E. kit on a Monday and Thursday, they should be wearing dark blue or black jogging bottoms, a plain white t-shirt and a dark blue or black hoodie (or a school jumper/cardigan). Any pumps or trainers which stay on their feet as they run around. If children have their ears pierced, they must be able to take them out themselves.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Bliss, Mrs Martin and Miss Harrison

Hazel Class Weekly Newsletter 6.5.22

Hello everyone!

We have had a great week in Hazel Class.

In Literacy, we have continued our work on play scripts. We have explored how using stage directions affects the way we perform and how the structure of a script works. We thoroughly enjoyed writing one as a class today!

In Maths, we have completed our unit on money. The children absolutely aced it! Well done to each and every one of you, you’ve all worked so hard in this unit. Next week we move onto coordinates.

In Science, we carried out an investigation using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and bubbles. We will be finishing the write up for our investigation next week. In Geography, we discussed latitude and longitude and even used 4 figure grid references!

Can I please remind you to bring in your letters for Shropshire Sings next week. Also, don’t forget to bring in any change for the coin challenge! The winning class will be able to spend the prize money on something for their classroom.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Bliss, Mrs Martin and Miss Harrison

Hello everyone,

We have had a lovely week back, it has been wonderful to see the children back after a nice Easter Break.

In Literacy, we have begun our unit on Play Scripts. We have focused on an extract from Oliver Twist, getting to know the text and finding the features.

In Maths, we have begun our unit on Money. I have been really impressed with the children’s ability to recognise different coins, compare and order money and convert between pounds and pence.

This term, our topic is ‘All Around the World’. We have started by looking at the globe, locating the northern and southern hemispheres and the equator.

Have a wonderful bank holiday weekend, we will see you all back on Tuesday 3rd May.

Hello everyone,

We have made it to Spring term! I can’t believe how quickly the time is going and that we only have one more term to go!

On Monday, we went on a visit to Aico (who develop and create Fire and Carbon Monoxide alarms). We started with a tour of the different departments, then split off to complete a number of activities including wiring a fire alarm, packaging and looking at fire risks within the home. The children all enjoyed the day, I was so impressed with their behavior and attitudes throughout the day.

This week in Literacy, we have been planning and writing our own poems, based on the poem we have been exploring ‘The Magic Box’. The children have included lots of wonderful description in their writing.

In Maths, we have been learning about decimals, they children have show a great understanding of this unit. Next term we will move on to our Money and Time units. Why not encourage the children to tell you the time at different stages of the day during Easter?

In Summer our topic will be ‘All Around The World’, where we will be learning all the railways are food across the world.

Have a wonderful Easter Break, we look forward to seeing you all back
