It has been lovely to have all the children back at school after the Easter break.  Everyone is full of enthusiasm for the summer term.  Already we are enjoying our new class text -‘Treason’.  It is a challenging read, but the children love a challenge!   This week we have been writing our own setting descriptions about the beach from our text.  The children have worked hard to edit and improve their sentences.  In Maths we have been adding, subtracting and partitioning fractions.  In Science we have been looking at the parts of the body and how we can keep ourselves healthy.

PE this half term is on Monday and Wednesday.

Another term in year 3 completed and the children have worked incredibly hard, in all areas – well done Hazel Class! This week we have been completing lots of reading quizzes and trying hard to practice our times tables.

Today at swimming we had great success in swimming 25 meters on our fronts and backs.  All the children have loved our swimming sessions, they have improved greatly in their ability and confidence.

This week we have completed our newspaper reports and will be bringing a copy home to share with you.  The children have enjoyed writing them and have added detail using vocabulary and quotes from our class text.  In maths we have been learning how to measure mass and capacity.  The children have been reading scales, dividing and problem solving.  In science we have been learning how fossils are formed and the different types of fossil, which can form.

Swimming was great today with lots of children swimming without floats across the pool! We have one more swimming session left next week.

This week has been busy with learning how to measure mass in grams and kilograms.  We have also completed our class text and will be beginning our new one next week – There’s a Pharaoh in our bath! We had an amazing day for World Book Day and all of the children looked superb in their costumes.  They all enjoyed moving around the classrooms and completing different themed activities.  At swimming today we learned some simple life saving techniques.  The children have enjoyed these sessions and are getting much more confident in the water.  Well done everyone!

A big well done to everyone today for being so much more confident during our swimming session.  All children had a great time and some even jumped in at the deep end!
This week in English we have been writing instructions on how to make a mummy, linked to our class text and history topic.  The children have enjoyed using imperative verbs and are spotting them in their reading too.  We have been adding and subtracting length, converting millimetres to centimetres to make sure we have the correct answers.  This has been a challenge but all the children have worked hard to understand how to compare and convert measures.

This week we have had our first swimming session.  We all had great fun and tried extremely hard.  Well done for everyone remembering their kits, to take out ear rings and for being so sensible at the session.  We have four more swimming sessions so please remember to practise getting dried and dressed quickly.

In geography we have made a mini water cycle in our classroom and have been measuring cloud cover.  We have looked at how clouds are made and the different types of clouds.

In English we have been following and writting instructions.  We have learnt what imperative verbs are and have been using them in our writing.  Please remember to read, read, read!

This week we began our new class text ‘Claw of the Sphinx’ and we are already hooked! We are writing setting descriptions using exciting and powerful vocabulary.  Already we are seeing some incredible sentences, with the children confidently verbally editing their thoughts.  In maths we have been multiplying two digit numbers by one digit numbers.  We have been linking multiplication and division facts to help us reason our learning.  This week we have started our work on the water cycle, we changed water into ice, steam and made condensation.  We have found Egypt on a map and started to learn about some of the Ancient Eygptian rituals.

It was lovely to see all the children back in school and enthusiastic about the Spring Term.  They clearly had a lovely Christmas break and have settled quickly back into classroom routines.  This term we will have PE on Wednesday and Friday.  Please can we remind you that water only should be sent in the children’s water bottles.

This week we have been working on our timestables and related facts.  We are learning how to scale numbers by 10 and use our previous learning to he;p us.  We have written recounts of our time at Christmas, using conjunctions and adverbs to add interest for the reader.

Wow What a busy week!  We have completed our class text ‘Friend or Foe’ it was such a good read some of the children actually had a small tear when we read the final words.  We have been using our History knowledge to write poems and have used some poems from WW II as inspiration.  In Maths we have been consolidating our times tables and quick recall of number facts.  We have been learning about sun safety in Science and the benefits of the sun in relation to the disadvantages.

Then to finish the week, we were treated to a Santa Fly Past, some of the children were a little worried that he may fall out of the helicopter as he was leaning out and waving. (Thank you to RAF Shawbury) Once Santa had landed he then came to visit us in school – Christmas is almost here!
