Happy New Year!
I hope you have all had a relaxing break and the children have enjoyed their return to school.
We have had a very busy two days back. The children have tried very hard in their writing, creating a recount of some events over the past two weeks. I have been very impressed with their care in presentation.
Our main focus has been on Design and Technology and our food topic of around the world. The children have looked at the different food groups and common foods used across the world. Today they children then practiced their slicing, dicing, peeling and grating, as well as creating pretzels. Soft Pretzel Recipe
I hope you have a great weekend,

Happy New Year!
We hope you all had a lovely Christmas.
Despite the children only being back two days, we’ve been busy in Year 4. The children really enjoyed telling us all about their Christmas holidays. In English we’ve been looking at recounts and they had a go at writing their own.
We have started our new unit on length and perimeter in Maths. We looked at kilometres, meters and centimetres, which would be the best unit of measure to use and then compared measurements.
In Science, we started our unit on states of matter by looking at properties of a solid, liquid and gas. We talked about particles and the children sorted materials into solids, liquids and gases.
We looked at different clothing in design and technology. The children used the labels to help them work out what the clothing was made of it. We also looked at types at how they were joined together.
Swimming will be on next Friday, so please can you make sure your child brings in their swimming kit and coat. Thank you.
We hope you have a great weekend.

Well Happy New Year and welcome back! It’s only been a couple of days but the children are starting to settle back into routine and have adapted easily to the changes in staffing. I have enjoyed spending the last two days getting to know them and look forward to getting to know them better and learn a more about them as term progresses.
In Phonics we have been recapping all the Phase 2 sounds and tricky words and will start Phase 3 next week. We will be learning four new sounds each week and also some new tricky words. It is important the children keep reviewing sounds and tricky words that they already know so they become confident and fluent readers so please look out for resources that will be sent home in the next couple of weeks to support with this. They have all completed drawings and independent writing about their Christmas holidays today, trying hard to use their phonic knowledge and form their letters correctly. They have also quickly learnt two poems from The Poetry Basket – Chop! Chop! and Popcorn! I was very impressed with how quickly they were able to recite them as a class and we will continue to learn to recite more poems from the Poetry Basket over the year.
In Maths we have been recapping what we learnt last term about all the numbers to 5 and how they are made up of other numbers, using the Numberblocks episode ‘Whole of Me’ to help us remember how to partition through song. We will begin our next unit learning about 6,7, and 8 on Monday.
From Monday we are having an extra PE session just for this term with the coach so PE will be on Mondays and Fridays up until February half term.
If you have any queries about your child’s learning, please feel free to drop me an email on beech@crowmoorschool.co.uk
Have a lovely weekend.

Welcome back, it’s so good to see everyone back at school looking smart. Please remember the school uniform rules sent out at the end of term. School shoes need to be plain black.
Until February half term, our PE will be on Mondays and Tuesdays. Children must wear their school jumper or cardigan with a plain white t-shirt, black, navy or grey jogging bottoms and trainers. No football shirts or colourful and branded hoodies please!
Earrings must be removed by yourself or your child for PE. They cannot be covered with a plaster.
All the children have been excitedly sharing what they have been getting up to over the Christmas holidays, there have been some very lucky children.
We have started our learning about Judaism by thinking about something that is precious to them. We had some lovely thoughts about family being precious which was great to hear. They have learnt to recognise the ‘Star of David’ and that it is a symbol which is precious to Jewish people.
Have a fab weekend,
Mrs Dowell, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Savory

It has been lovely to get to know the children over the past few days. Really looking forward to the Spring term and getting up to all sorts of amazing things.
In Maths we have countinued to look at money and compare different amounts using more than, less than and equals too. In English, we have done a recount of the Christmas holidays. It sounds like you’ve all had a lovely time
Reminders –
PE is on a Tuesday and a Thursday. They children need to be in navy or black joggers/leggings, with a white top and a plain navy or black top with trainers.
Children need to read 3x per week with an adult at home so that we can then change their books. It is really important that they read it 3 times so that they improve fluency.

Welcome back! We are in 2024!
A huge welcome back to Spring term. We have some super exciting topics and learning taking place this half term, that I’m sure all the children will be excited to tell you all about. We already have some super keen children wanting to learn about The Titanic!
On our first week back, we have written a recount of our Christmas holidays, where the children have told me what they got up to over the Christmas break. The children have come back with a great attitude and are showing some fantastic handwriting and presentation skills to start off their new books! We have, also, spent this week working on our Design + Technology project, where the children have designed, planned and created an adventure map with the theme of ‘The Titanic’ or ‘Mountains’ to link to our topics.
Have a great weekend
