Good afternoon,
This week has been assessment week and the children have been showing us how much they have learnt and progressed throughout the year. One child who has really impressed us, and shown how much his hard work has paid off, is our certificate winner Archie. Well done, Archie!
In Design and Technology, the children have been finishing making their bridges. Today they tested them out using toy vehicles, then evaluated their work thinking about what worked well and how they could improve them.

Year 4 were transported back to the 1900 on our trip to Blists Hill today.
We had a fantastic day getting dressed up, going to a Victorian school and walking around the town to learn more about what life was like during the Victorian period.

It’s been great to see the sun this week. Please make sure that children bring water bottles and sun hats into school, and suncream has been applied before coming into school. Please also make sure jumpers and cardigans are names, so if they are misplaced they can be returned quickly. Thank you.
This week we started our unit on position and direction in maths and have been looking at co-ordinates. The children have been describing positions using co-ordinates, learning how to plot co-ordinates and draw 2D shapes on a grid.
In our writing sessions, the children have been planning and writing a diary entry from the perspective of Jim Jarvis from our class book ‘Street Child’. One child who showed a good understanding of features of a diary entry was our Golden Certificate winner Alfie K. He is a also great role model to his peers and always listens well, tried hard and contributes well to class discussions.
Please can any trip letters be returned as soon as possible. Children need to wear school uniform as normal and will be back for the end of the school day.

A huge well done to all the children who took part in Sports Day. It was great to see them working together and cheering on their house.
This week, the children have enjoyed using instruments to look at pitch in science and have started to make their bridges in design and technology.
Thank you to all of the children who have returned the trip letters. If you haven’t, please bring them in as soon as you can and if there are only problems getting onto parent pay then please let us know. Thank you.

Good afternoon,
It is KS2 (yr 3,4,5,6) Sport’s Day this Thursday (20th June). The children will be taking part in field events followed by some track events. During each event, the children will be trying to get points for their house, and as usual with KS2 Sport’s Day the children are welcome to wear their house’s colour t-shirt and/or jumper alongside their usual PE shorts/trousers and trainers. (Caradoc – blue, Grinshill – green, Haughmond, red, Wrekin – yellow.)
If you would like to cheer the children on, gates will open for parents/supporters at 9:10am and the children will aim to start at 9:30am.

In our writing sessions this week we have been planning and writing our own poems based on the poem ‘The Sound Collector’. We changed our poem to ‘The Taste Collector’ and thought of some of our favourite food and drink and how they tasted.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Riley. He had some great ideas in English and create a fantastic poem. Well done!
In Maths, we finished our unit on shape. This week we have looked at quadrilaterals, polygons and lines of the symmetry. The children have also enjoyed investigating how sounds are made by using a ruler in Science.
Next week we have sports day on Thursday morning. Please can the children come into school wearing their PE kit (they can wear a top supporting the colour of their house). Thank you.

We have some surplus maths books in school. Over the next few weeks the children will be bringing them home to keep. They are an excellent opportunity to revisit the learning in school and something to keep them busy on all these rainy days we are having!
They do not need to be returned to school.

In English, we have been looking at the poem ‘The Sound Collector’. The children found features of the poem and we looked further at repetition, alliteration and onomatopoeia. Well done, Noah who correctly spelt ‘onomatopoeia’ this morning.
We have started our new topic ‘sound’ in Science and how sounds are made. One child who really impressed during our lesson was Archie. He was a golden certificate winner this week. Archie is a great member of Sycamore Class and always tries hard. Well done, Archie.
We have started our unit on shape in maths. We have looked at angles as turns, how to identify angles and comparing and ordering angles. Today we looked at properties of triangles.
The children have enjoyed practising their timestables in class. Please remember to practise at home.

This week we’ve been looking at informal letters in our writing sessions. The children have been working on using questions and apostrophes for contractions (e.g can’t), in their writing. In Maths, we’ve been looking at multiplication and division.
The children enjoyed making switches in our science lesson. We talked about the job of a switch and used one in our circuits. In design and technology, we’ve looked at attachment techniques ready to help us design our bridges.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Reggie. He’s been trying really hard and making good choices. Well done!
