Sycamore Class Newsletter 17.2.2023
It’s been a busy last week to end the first half of our spring term, with parents evenings and the Valentine’s disco. It was great to see/speak to so many parents and carers this week.
This week we’ve finished looking at length and perimeter in Maths. The children have been calculating the perimeter of polygons and regular polygons, and finding missing lengths. After half term, we will be moving on to look at fractions.
In English, we’ve been finishing writing our explanation texts. We have been working on editing our work and writing it up neat. After half term we will be looking at play scripts.
Yesterday, the children enjoyed our first proper run through of our play ‘Glint of Gold’. Please can children with scripts practice their lines over the half term. All children have been given a letter about costumes today. Please let us know if there are any problems.
The children have also enjoyed sculpting insects this week in Art.
Our Golden certificate winner this week is Jake R. Jake is a kind, caring and helpful member of our class who tries hard and is eager to learn. Jake is making good progress in all subjects, especially reading. We are also very proud of Jake for performing in Get Your Wiggle On TITANIC THE MUSICAL. Well done, Jake.
Thursday 2nd March we will be celebrating World Book Day where children can come to school dressed as their favourite book character.
We hope you all have a fantastic half term.

Chestnut Weekly News 17.2.2023
Happy half term! We have had a great few weeks enjoying our Polar topics. We have finally completed our letters to Felicity Aston and a select few have been sent to her. We hope to have an answer to our questions next half term. We will be writing our own stories when we get back to school, so make sure you read each day and get some ideas.
in maths we have been using counting on and back to find the difference between numbers. We found this tricky to begin with but are gaining confidence constantly.
Please help your child to practise their phonics using the sound mats we sent home earlier in the week. This will really support them during our phonics check next term.
On Thursday 2nd March it is World Book Day. Your child can come to school dressed as their favourite book character. We look forward to seeing all of their favourites. The costume does not have to be shop bought. We enjoy seeing home made costumes and the delight the children have in making them. You can find lots of ideas online.
Enjoy the half term week!

Elm Newsletter 17.2.23
We’ve made it to half term which means the children are more than half way through their time in Elm Class. They’ll be in Year 3 before we know it!
They all enjoyed the disco on Wednesday afternoon, it was so good to see them dancing and having fun. We even had two winners in Elm Class: well done Bobby P and Felicity!
It was great to see so many of you at Parent’s Evenings this week, thank you for coming along. The children will be working hard on their targets in the coming weeks. Please support them with their reading and times tables practice.
Next half term is only a short one. In the first week back it is World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. I have talked to the children about costume ideas, please do not feel the need to go out and buy a costume. There are lots of simple home made ideas on Google and Pintrest.
Have a great half term,
Mrs Dowell and Mrs Armstrong
Willow – 17.2.23
Good afternoon,
Wow, what a half term we have had. I have been very impressed by a lot of the children’s attitudes and how well focused they have been.
This week we have finished out geography unit by looking at tourism and its impact. In art we have painted our sketches following inspiration from the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. On top of this, we have shown the children what the SATs will look like later this year and discussed some of the questions the children had.
This week our Golden Certificate winner has put in a lot of effort and been a positive role model around the school – congratulations Archie.
Over half term please encourage the children to read daily.
I hope you have a fun break,
Mr Reynolds
Hazel Class Weekly Newsletter 17.2.23
Hello everyone,
This week in in English, we have written and illustrated our explanation texts. I have been so impressed with the writing they have achieved this week, well done. Take a look at an example of our explanation texts below:
In Maths, we have started our unit on fractions. This week, we discussed what a fraction is. We learn about what the denominator and numerators are and have compared fractions.
In Computing we have, been creating and debugging our own codes using the software ‘Scratch’.
Well done to this weeks golden certificate winner, Ben. For demonstrating wonderful knowledge of fractions and supporting his peers with their learning. Also for helping to set up a chess club in school.
Just a note to say we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March.
Have a lovely half term, we will see you back at school on Monday 27th February.
Miss Bliss, Mrs Martin and Miss Aldridge
Oak Class Weekly Newsletter 17.2.23
What a great half term we have had!
In English, we have finished our unit on explanation texts, where the children have created their own explanations on how mountains are formed. The children have worked really hard and it is great to see Year 5 cohesive devices evident in their writing.
In Maths, we have finished a short unit on Statistics. This was a tricky unit, especially when looking at timetables, as children understood the importance of being able to tell the time. Definitely something to work on.
Unfortunately, our Read The Game programme has come to an end. The children thoroughly enjoyed the programme and have produced some great work and learnt some fantastic new skills! I will be announcing the winners of the STFC tickets soon.
Our Golden Certificate Winner is Willow! She has shown great determination throughout the Read The Game programme and has used these skills in the girls football club which she attends with Miss Hipkiss. Well Done Willow! She will take home the Oak Class Diary over the half term break.
Although we have had lots of fun this half term, we are looking forward to all the exciting things lined up for when we return. After half term we will have an extra session of PE on Mondays, so please come into school with PE kits on Mondays and Thursdays. World Book Day is the 2nd March (first Thursday back), where all children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character.
Have a lovely break! Make sure to keep up the reading. We look forward to all the exciting things you get up to.
Miss Hipkiss and Miss Nicholas
