Phonics screening practise
Please find some sheets with alien and real words on for you to practise with your child. Your child should sound out the graphemes and then blend them together to read the word. For example ph-o-t-o = photo or c-l-ou-d = cloud

We have had a short but busy week this week.
In English, we have started our unit on adverts. We looked at what an advert is and the features of an advert. We then looked at slogans; what they are and why they are used, before trying to write our own about Shrewsbury Prison. The children enjoyed thinking of all the slogans they already know that are used to help sell a place or product.
In Maths, we have finished our unit of work on decimals. This week, we have looked at comparing and ordering decimals and halves and quarters as decimals. Next week, we start our unit on money.
In Science, we have been looking at skeletons of animals. The children enjoyed looking at ‘vertebrates’ and ‘invertebrates’ and matching the animal to its skeleton.
This week, our Golden Certificate Winner is Noah. He is an excellent role model who is always eager to learn and always tries hard. Noah created an excellent Lego model of a prison for his homework, which was very well thought out. He enjoyed sharing his model with the class and the whole school in assembly today. Well done, Noah!
PE will be on Monday and Wednesday for the next two weeks. Please can children come into school in PE kit on these days. Thank you.
Have great weekend.

This week we have been reading the traditional tale The Three Billy Goats Gruff in Drawing Club. The children have been working hard on including greater detail in their drawings and improving the presentation of their writing by using spaces between words and trying to keep their letters on the line.
They have learned the words luscious, creaky, fearless, gruesome, determined and bamboozled.
In phonics they have continued to work on Level 4, reading CCVC words this week and identifying the double consonant at the beginning of the word e.g ‘sw’ in swim, ‘tr’ in trip, train, tree, ‘st’ in step, stop, stick etc. They have also learned the tricky words some, come, have and like. All the level 4 tricky words they have learned so far have been added to their sound card bags so they can practice at home.
In Maths they started the week continuing to practice solving missing number addition stories, then we moved on to learning to subtract using the First, Then, Now structure introduced last week for addition. Some of the children are beginning to use their bank of number facts to solve problems, which is great but we are also working on making sure they can ‘prove it’ and show it on a ten frame, talk about it or record it in pictures or in a number sentence.
We had great fun in PE working on our running skills, making sure we run safely at speed avoiding obstacles and are getting better at working in teams in preparation for Sports Day which we will start to practice for after half term.
Well done to all the super readers who won a prize from the lucky dip box this week – keep it up over the weekend as we will be checking for winners again on Monday.
Have a lovely weekend.

Good afternoon,
I am so impressed with how well the children focused and tried their best this week during their tests. Please make sure they have a well earned rest this weekend.
Alongside the tests, the children have been writing diary entries, sharing their thoughts and views. In geography we focused on a particular area of America and investigated physical and human land features. For art the children have made a mock-up of their Maya mask, which we will begin creating this week.
One child who has worked particularly hard this week and who is really beginning to show off her writing skills, and is this week’s Golden Certificate winner is Alice – congratulations.
Please keep up the daily reading at home and I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend,
Mr Reynolds

Hello everyone,
In English, we have started our unit on adverts. We have looked at a range of different adverts, discussed the features and have written slogans linked to the Shrewsbury Prison.
In Maths, we have started our unit on money. I have been so impressed with the children’s ability to recognise money, convert pounds and pence and add money this week.
In French this week, we have been learning the vocabulary for different subjects and have been able to have an opinion on these subjects in French. Why not ask your child to tell you what their favourite subjects are in French.
Well done to this weeks golden certificate winner, Alfie. For his wonderful enthusiasm towards his learning, particularly in English this week. We really enjoy the discussions he brings to the lessons.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Bliss and Mrs Martin
