Good afternoon,

Wow, what a week we have had to finish the autumn term. From finishing our character descriptions, to carols at the church, to our Christmas lunch and a disco we have managed to fit a lot in.

I have been very impressed with how the children have focused and how they have tried very hard across all the subjects and topics we have covered. One child that has been particularly focused, a role model and this week’s Golden Certificate is Alice, congratulations.

I hope the children enjoy the festive break and have plenty of time to relax. My only request for the children over the break is to keep up the reading – it really does make all the difference.

Finally, I would like to say thank you very much for all the cards and presents, they are very thoughtful.

Good afternoon,

This week we have continued to explore how to describe a character, thinking about how they would speak and respond to questions and how they would react in different situations. The children have been very creative and built up some interesting characters. Our Golden Certificate goes to one child who has done this particularly well, and has improved her presentation – congratulations Mia.

In maths, we have come to the end of our unit on fractions. The children have understood the processes well but need to spend some time learning their times tables, so the become fluent. In science, we have been discussing diet and how our diet impacts how we feel and what our body is able to achieve.

I have been really impressed with how focused the children have been in computing, we have been able to program more components and have explored ‘if’ and ‘until’ in our sequence of code.

Please keep up the daily reading, it has shot up this week and it would be great to keep this going.

Willow Class has continued to produce some lovely descriptive work in English as we have moved on to look at how we can build a character’s description. In maths, we have continued our look at fractions, solidifying our understanding.

The children have enjoyed science, learning more about the circulatory system, the impact exercise has on our body and how our body responds. In history, we have looked at some the events that happened in World War 2.

The Golden Certificate this week has gone to a child who has been morning really hard across all subjects and has really focused during our tests, well done Maddie.

Dear Parents,

This week was friendship week so we have been exploring what it means to be a good friend.

In English we have been doing descriptive writing and the children have written some fantastic pieces including fronted adverbial phrases, use of sense language and figurative language. Our Golden Certificate recipient went to a member of the class who really excelled in this piece of work and demonstrated all the required features; Congratulations Theo.

In Maths we have been doing fractions and in History we have continued our learning on World War 2 by looking at the impact of rationing. We have finished our week by talking about permission and what it means in PSHE.

As part of Children In Need and friendship week we have produced some work as a class which you will be able to see on our class page next week.

Good afternoon,

The children have continued to impress in English this week. We have focused heavily on commas and how we can get sentences to flow on from each other. The children have created some lovely descriptive paragraphs and am I looking forward to seeing what they can achieve next week.

In maths, we are well in to our fraction unit, checking our understanding of finding equivalent and simplifying fractions. Next week we move on to addition and subtraction.

As part of our computing we have the use of crumbles for this half term, which the children have explored this week and are keen to start creating and programming next week. In history we have continued our WW2 topic by looking at evacuees, the children did an excellent job of putting themselves in an evacuee’s shoes and thought about what it must have been like.

This week our Golden Certificate went to a child that has contributed to discussion through out the week and has really shown us what he can do in his writing. Congratulations Noah.

What a great first week back we have had; I am so impressed with some of the description and creativity the children have shown within their writing. One child, who is also our Golden Certificate winner, particularly focused really hard and thought about building the description – congratulations Riley.

In maths we have finished our work on the four operations and next week will be moving on to fractions. In history we have started our new topic on World War 2 and in design and technology we have begun our cooking and nutrition unit.

Next week the children will have P.E. on Monday and Thursday as usual, but will also have P.E. on Friday, please help the children to remember to wear their PE kits.

Hopefully the children have all brought home their homework for this week – it is due in on Tuesday. This will run alongside their daily spelling and reading homework.
