Good afternoon,
Well done to all the children for trying hard during our swimming lessons. It has been great to watch their confidence in the water grow and they have made their own personal progress with swimming. Today was our last lesson.
Yesterday, the children enjoyed investigating changes in state in Science. We looked at what temperature chocolate melts and observed it change from solid to liquid. This morning we then noticed the melted chocolate had returned to solid.
In English, we planned and wrote our newspaper report. We have been looking at using inverted commas for reported and direct speech and third person pronouns.
In Maths, we finished our unit on length and perimeter. This week we have looked at finding the perimeter of rectilinear shapes and regular and irregular polygons.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Tyler. He makes the right choices and is an excellent role model to his peers. Well done!
We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Parents evening letters were given out on Wednesday. Thank you for all the slips that have already been brought in.
We hope you have a great weekend.

Swimming
The children all tried very hard in swimming today. They swam across the deep end where they were not able to put their feet down then tried to get themselves out of the pool. They also went under the water to get sinkers.
It has been great to see their confidence in the water grow.
If your child has swimming goggles at home and they want to bring them to help them when going under the water, they are welcome to.
We have two more swimming lesson left (Friday 12th and 19th).

Happy New Year!
We hope you all had a lovely Christmas.
Despite the children only being back two days, we’ve been busy in Year 4. The children really enjoyed telling us all about their Christmas holidays. In English we’ve been looking at recounts and they had a go at writing their own.
We have started our new unit on length and perimeter in Maths. We looked at kilometres, meters and centimetres, which would be the best unit of measure to use and then compared measurements.
In Science, we started our unit on states of matter by looking at properties of a solid, liquid and gas. We talked about particles and the children sorted materials into solids, liquids and gases.
We looked at different clothing in design and technology. The children used the labels to help them work out what the clothing was made of it. We also looked at types at how they were joined together.
Swimming will be on next Friday, so please can you make sure your child brings in their swimming kit and coat. Thank you.
We hope you have a great weekend.

Hello everyone,
What a busy week!
The children all sang so well at our Christmas Carol Service at the church on Wednesday. Yesterday, we enjoyed our Christmas dinner in our Christmas jumpers/outfits, and today we managed to get back in time from swimming to wave and see Santa fly past in a helicopter. Once he had landed, we even got to meet Santa this afternoon.
Today it was great to see how the children are growing in confidence in the water and trying hard with their swimming.
Our Golden Certificate winner is Ava. Her confidence has really grown in the water and all adults commented on how much she has improved. Well done!
This week have looked at the poem ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ and talked about rhyming couplets and similes. We will continue to look at the poem next week.
Yesterday, we finished our unit of food in design and technology by preparing and making our meal. Most of the children enjoyed tasting it too! They then evaluated it, thinking about what they may do different next time.
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

Hello everyone,
We have been using our class book ‘Thieves of Ostia’ in our writing sessions to look at historical stories. After looking at commas for clauses, and going over our work on adjectives and adverbs, we had a go and writing our own.
In Maths, we have been using factor pairs, multiplying by 10 and 100 and dividing by 10. Remember to practise those times tables at home.
We have been continuing to look the digestion system in Science. The children enjoyed looking at the process of digestion and tried to explain it themselves.
We’ve noticed quite a lot of children are not bringing in reading records, books and water bottles. Please can these be brought in daily. Thank you.
Swimming will be on Friday (8th), so please can you make sure your child brings in their swimming kit and coat.
We hope you have a great weekend.
