Happy Coronation!

In English, we have been finalising our books! The are looking great and really showcase the children’s writing progress since the start of the year.

In Maths, we have just finished our unit on Shape, where the children received some really good scores! We have just started our new unit looking at decimals again. The children are recapping what we have already learnt about decimals and applying this to our new learning.

New spellings are posted. Please try find the time at home to practice these at the weekend. We need to aim for spelling bees! I have also set new Mathletics homework to link to our new unit. The children have been really good at keeping up to date with Mathletics this week, keep it up!

Happy long weekend!

In English, we have begun to write our adventure stories, which we will create books from next week. Our focus has been to include speech and structure our story about a house travelling across America.

In Maths, we have continued to look at Shape and will complete a end of topic test next week. We have worked super hard on calculating different angles in shapes, using protractors.

In Art we have worked on our portrait drawings and have explored using charcoal this afternoon.

This week’s Golden Certificate Winner is Kayden for his amazing effort to improve his handwriting. He will take the Oak Class Diary home this weekend. Well Done Kayden!

Welcome back!

We have kicked off the new term diving deep into all of our new topics.

In English, we have begun our Adventure story unit. The children have focused this week on writing speech, as this was identified as an area all children needed to work on.

In Maths, we have begun our new unit on Shape. This week has consisted of us learning about angles and how to use a protractor. Efforts in Maths this week have been amazing!

In Religious Education this week, the children were particularly proud of their re-written interpretation of The Lords’ Prayer. And all children are excited about the new Science unit, where we are aiming to complete an investigation every week.

This week’s Golden Certificate Winner is Scarlett W. She has made fantastic efforts in Maths and continues to show improvement. She will take home the Oak Class Diary this week. Well Done Scarlett!

PE for Year 5 is now back to only a Thursday, so please send children in with normal school uniform on Mondays.

Hello everyone,

We have had a busy week in Oak this week. Assessments, assessments and more assessments! The children have done amazingly this week with all the tests they have had to do, and all are trying immensely hard to progress.

In addition to all the assessments, we have still powered on through with our Maths. We have completed our unit on ‘Decimals and Percentages’ and… WOW, some fantastic scores! Seeing their faces after achieving such good scores has made my week!

Unfortunately, due to technical issues accessing the website, I was unable to post a newsletter last week. Our Golden Certificate last week was Ryan, for his amazing efforts in Maths. He took home the Oak Class Diary last weekend to include his exciting entry. Well Done Ryan!

This week’s Golden Certificate Winner is Harley after receiving an amazing score in the Maths end of topic test. Well Done Harley, keep up the hard work! He will take home the Oak Class diary this weekend.

Please remember to keep up the momentum with the Mathletics, reading and spelling practice as we approach the last week of the term.

Another half term has begun. We are half-way through the school year!

In English, we have began to look at persuasive letters. We have had many debates around ‘Teachers VS Internet’, ‘should children wear school uniforms’ and we will continue to work on our speaking and listening skills next week.

In Maths, we have started to look at decimal numbers. The children have done incredibly well and have flew through activities.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our extra PE session on Monday, where we worked on our throwing and catching skills, but also developed our team work and communication throughout. Miss Hipkiss even joined in to help!

World Book Day was a great success. All children made a fantastic effort dressing up. Our winners in the class for Best Dressed were Skye and Charlie. Well Done! On that note, please ensure children continue to read at home. We are aiming for 3million words by the end of term!

Our Golden Certificate Winner this week is George! His attitude to learning has massively improved and he is now actively seeking how to improve his writing in English. Well Done George! He will take home the Oak Class Diary this weekend.

Children will have come home with new homework and new spellings for the weekend. Mathletics is also set to be completed.

What a great half term we have had!

In English, we have finished our unit on explanation texts, where the children have created their own explanations on how mountains are formed. The children have worked really hard and it is great to see Year 5 cohesive devices evident in their writing.

In Maths, we have finished a short unit on Statistics. This was a tricky unit, especially when looking at timetables, as children understood the importance of being able to tell the time. Definitely something to work on.

Unfortunately, our Read The Game programme has come to an end. The children thoroughly enjoyed the programme and have produced some great work and learnt some fantastic new skills! I will be announcing the winners of the STFC tickets soon.

Our Golden Certificate Winner is Willow! She has shown great determination throughout the Read The Game programme and has used these skills in the girls football club which she attends with Miss Hipkiss. Well Done Willow! She will take home the Oak Class Diary over the half term break.

Although we have had lots of fun this half term, we are looking forward to all the exciting things lined up for when we return. After half term we will have an extra session of PE on Mondays, so please come into school with PE kits on Mondays and Thursdays. World Book Day is the 2nd March (first Thursday back), where all children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character.

Well done to all this week!

In Literacy, we have begun to look at explanation texts and will eventually write our own account on how mountains are formed. This unit has had us looking at commas in a list to begin with, so we can avoid using ‘and’ too many times.

In Maths, we have worked super hard in our new Fractions unit. We have found fractions of a quantity and have stunned Miss Bliss at our abilities! Well done!

We had a fantastic discussion this week in RE about the concept of ahimsa. We discussed how our actions should be kind and non-violent and how this is promoted through Hinduism. We researched into an amazing charity Sewa UK and looked at the work they have done to help others. Amazing!

Our Golden Certificate Winner this week is Teigan! She has made a fantastic effort at creating friendships with all children in the class and has promoted our kindness in Oak Class. Well Done Teigan! She will take home the Oak Class Diary for the weekend.
