Build a Burger Day
Menu for Thursday 16th May
This week we have been writing diary entries, focusing on writing in the first person and using the past tense. The children are enjoying writing their own diaries and next week we will be writing one for the main character in our class text. In maths we have been learning how to calculate start and finish times of events, we have also been learning how to work out the duration of an activity. The children have enjoyed our art sessions and have made maquettes. Next week we will be making clothes for them.
Well done to everyone in Hazel class – we have won the attendance trophy three weeks in a row!
Enjoy the weekend and remember – Read, read, read

What a glorious week! We have loved the sunshine in Elm this week. We have had some lovely afternoon book sharing sessions sat on the grass. It really has been lush☀️ 📕!!
In maths we have finished our time topic. It was a very tricky concept for some of the children so we are going to do some recapping next week. Practice makes perfect! In English we have continued reading our book “the boy who grew dragons 🐉 “. The children are loving this book, they have all said they would love a pet dragon. It has been so lovely to really share a book with the children that they love just as much as I do. In writing we have written non-chronological reports about African animals. Combining our knowledge from Geography and English to write fantastic pieces of factual informative writing.
In science we have been busy observing and recording the changes and growth of our bean plants. The children couldn’t believe that the beans have germinated in cotton wool! We also discussed why the plants with no sunlight have still grown but are not green. It has been a real life learning experience! In art, we have mixed red and yellow to make orange sunsets 🌅. We then drew African animals and trees on black paper and cut them out to make silhouettes.
Have a wonderful weekend in the sun ☀️ .
Please READ READ READ!

The next Friends meeting is 21st May, 9am. All welcome 🙂
Good afternoon,
We have had a busy week this week, with the children working very hard and really testing their understanding, particularly in maths. We have been looking at shape and the need to be accurate whilst drawing them. In English we have studied a short clip called ‘The Piano’, the children have been writing flashbacks based on this and have really understood the emotion behind the main character. One child who has particularly focused well this week and tried very hard and is our Golden Certificate winner is Jess – congratulations.
In computing the children have really got to grips with 3D design and produced some very impressive looking and practical designs for a new pencil case. We continued our study of Europe in geography and have begun to look at the differences in ancient Athens and ancient Sparta in History.
Please keep encouraging the children to read daily and if possible log on to Mathletics and SPAG.com.
I hope you all enjoy the extended weekend,
Mr Reynolds, Mrs Davies and Miss Nicholas
This week the children have worked extra hard on their narrative writting and use of vocabulary – we are very pleased with the results and the amount of effort that has been shown. We are telling the time in maths using analogue and digital clocks, please try to encourage your child to tell the time over the coming weeks. We are also revisiting fractions and always practising our times tables.
Enjoy the long weekend and remember – Read, read, read!

Happy Friday!
Had a lovely week this week. Has been helped by some lovely sunny outbursts.
We have been getting stuck into our class book ‘the boy who grew dragons’ and the children are really enjoying it. We have used it this week to write our very own stories about searching for Dragons. There were lots of fabulous ideas, I am really looking forward to reading them.
In Maths we have been busy learning how to tell the time! This week we have looked at:
The children have been really good at this and have enjoyed telling me what time it is in class. Many of them reminding me when lunch time is getting close!
In Science we discovered what was inside a seed and checked in on our plant experiment. Some of the seeds had started to germinate and the children were very excited to see the life cycle of a plant evolve in front of them. In Art, we made African inspired tribal masks. The children all planned them last week and used their designs to fabricate some great pieces. In RE, we looked at the ten commandments and how it is important to live by rules and in History we looked at Katherine Johnson and her life at NASA.
Remember lots of reading please!
Have a lovely bank holiday, see you bright and early on Tuesday.
Miss Shadbolt, Mrs E and Miss Harris 🙂
On Friday 10th May we will be holding a non uniform day we ask that children bring in tombola donations for the Summer Fayre.
Many thanks
🙂
