The week was punctuated by our visit to Belvidere to watch ‘We Will Rock You’. What a performance – the children really enjoyed it and it was fantastic to spot several ex-Crowmoorians within the performance. We completed our Quest writing and the children extended their knowledge of modal verbs. In maths, we continued our decimal study – we concentrated on converting fractions to decimals and vice versa. We practised our class Viking song again and completed our ‘Lindesfarne Invasion’ newspaper report. Well done to the children that represented the school in Basketball, Netball and Hockey – as always the children tried hard and the sportsmanship they displayed was second to none. I have set a fair amount of homework for the forthcoming break; the children have a fortnight to complete it. Please remember it is a PD Day on the first Monday back after Half Term. On the Tuesday, the first day back, we plan to plant trees in the local area so please ensure your child has the appropriate clothing as per the letter that went out earlier in the week. Have a fantastic weekend and Half Term break.

We have been completing our assessments this week and, when marked, we will go through the papers in our booster sessions to ensure the children understand how they can achieve maximum marks. We continued our ‘Quest’ work and we very successfully managed to write the accompanying text to our detailed picture book influence. In Maths we looked at working with decimals; specifically multiplication and division of numbers up to 3 decimal places. We have completed our Science topic and have started learning about ‘Inheritance and Evolution’. On Thursday, we had a good discussion about what constitutes on-line safety and I was very pleased with the children’s knowledge and mature attitudes. We also managed to find an opportunity to play ‘hit the button’ – a very motivating and inspiring maths game. The homework set next Friday will include the homework for Half Term too. Have a great weekend.

We’ve all enjoyed a great week. In Maths, we completed our position and direction unit and have started our decimal study. In Literacy, we continued looking at quests and are in the process of writing cohesive write ups to accompany the illustrations found in our shared, class book. We discussed and completed an activity that looked into the pros and cons of social networking and will continue our on-line safety lessons next week. We discussed healthy diets in Science and the children continued their ‘Dragon’s Den’ project. We marked the homework on Friday and more has been set. Have a super weekend.

I can not believe how quick this term is progressing. We have spent a little time investigating Brynolf and his associated quests. We have looked at what life was like during the Anglo Saxon times and we have discussed how their surroundings differ to ours. In Maths, we progressed our study of reading coordinates, translating and reflecting shapes. We started our class text and the children have had the chance of retesting themselves on Accelerated Reader. Their new ZPD ranges will follow, if the test scores indicate a new and progressive banding. I would appreciate you supporting your child with their homework, should they need it. Please also remind your child to bring their PE kit in at the beginning of the week and then take it home on a Friday. If they can not take part in PE please contact the office directly. Have a great weekend.

The term is in full flow now and we are cracking on with our new topics. We looked at myths and quests in Literacy and the conventions of a good story. We will develop this next week when the children write their own quest adventures. In maths we have moved on from fractions and are now studying geometry, specifically reading coordinates in single and multiple quadrants. Again we will develop this work next work by look at translating shapes within grids. In Science we learnt about the components of our blood. We started a booster session in Maths – we will carry on with this next week and I have already scheduled an afternoon to look at a previous literacy reading paper. Your children now have their booster books, these will form the basis of their homework – as always I would appreciate your assistance in making sure they complete set work by Friday; this allows us chance to mark it together and address any areas that arise. The children are enjoying their reading and most have taken a quiz (or more!) on the Accelerated Reading package – this is very encouraging. I plan for the children to take another reading test next week to see if we can progress their ZPD (Reading Spectrum) score. I will also endeavour to add the term topic content web to this area of the website shortly. Have a great weekend.

It was great to welcome the children back for the Spring Term. The children have enjoyed telling me about their holiday and memorable moments. We have focused on writing this week and I have been impressed with the grammar and recalled sentence types. In Maths we have looked at multiplying and dividing fractions. We conducted an experiment in Science where we tested our lung capacity. We even managed to fit in an extra session of PE where we played basketball. We start our afternoon booster sessions next week in the hope that it gives your child confidence in how to approach SAT style questions. Please encourage your child to continue with their reading; we have changed the way we run guided reading allowing your child more time to enjoy their book… this is an enjoyable time whereby the whole class escape into the story of their choice. Have a great weekend.

We’ve had a great week; we have revised the Christmas story, written an account of the event from the perspective of Mary or Joseph and shared Christmas lunch whilst modelling our Christmas jumpers. Our decorations have been put up on our tree at St Chad’s. If you get chance to visit please do; members of the school choir will be singing in the church on Saturday morning. We have continued with our fraction work and looked at adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. In Science we started our new topic and have looked at the heart and its function. Have a super weekend.

The children in Willow have worked so hard this week. We have completed our assessments and I will give feedback to the children when I have analysed all the data. Everyone tried their very best. The results and analysis helps me plan and it allows me a chance to reflect and amend groupings. It also highlights areas we can concentrate on within booster sessions after Christmas. The children have completed their accelerated reading test and have a ZPD code to assist in choosing books at their level of understanding; we’ll discuss this more in class next week. Thank you to those that attended the Accelerated Reading Launch; if you couldn’t make it the details/information will be placed on the website very shortly. We watched the EYFS nativity play on Friday and started our Christmas decorations for the trees – Christmas is coming! It is the Christmas lunch next Wednesday; if you haven’t already, please complete the slip, if appropriate, to confirm your child wants a Christmas dinner. Have a super weekend.

The Christmas season is amongst us! We will be making Christmas tree decorations next week and they will be on display on the school tree and our tree in St. Chad’s Church. We learnt about the Armistice this week and celebrated the war end by writing a newspaper report. In Maths we looked at division; the children are now more confident in answering calculations. In Literacy we completed our non-chronological report writing and wrote an ending to a story influence; this allowed the children chance to show off their newly acquired grammar skills. It’s our assessment week next week but we’ll still find time to have fun and continue our new ‘walk the mile’ initiative. Have a super weekend.
