The children have worked so hard this week – SATs end tomorrow morning so I thought they deserve a movie afternoon! I have had a quick chat with the children and asked them to bring in any suitable ‘U-rated’ DVDs. We hope to have a little library whereby the children can vote for the one they want to watch. If you have a suitable DVD (ideally a newish release) and are happy for your child to bring it into school then I would be very grateful. The children can store their DVDs in their lockers for safe keeping and will return home with them tomorrow. Thank you for your assistance and again, thank you for supporting your child through the week – you can be assured that they all tried their hardest and I am proud of them all.

The weeks are flying by and we are in the last week before SATs. I have been so impressed with your children’s work ethic. We have been revising this week and recapping some of the skills/questions we assume will be within the papers. The children are in a good place as far as content coverage and they have managed to maintain a sense of humour whilst still giving maximum effort. The children will sit the papers next week and I am confident they will try their hardest.
It is our residential visit next week and that will be an amazing way to finish what can be a stressful first part of the week.
I have set a little homework but intend giving the children a few weeks off after the exams – don’t tell them!
Have a great weekend – let’s keep our fingers crossed for good weather when we are in Arthog!

We have all returned back to school full of energy and we have had a great, productive week. We have concentrated on Maths and Literacy, in view of the forthcoming exams. In Maths, we have studied ratio and recognising and measuring angles and in Literacy we looked at a Guy Fawkes comprehension and we revised our Grammar and Punctuation. Your child is working so hard but I am mindful that we need to have a little fun along the way; as a result I will continue to offer opportunities to revise on line and continue as normal a timetable as possible. Well done to the twelve children who passed Stage 3 of the Bikeability Program; the children were a credit to yourselves and the school. We have had a few conversations about Arthog – all seem very excited and ready for their adventure. In the week of SATs the school encourage your child to come in for Breakfast club – this is free of charge and a great chance for your child to have breakfast whilst relaxing with their mates; a text will follow soon. Have a great Bank Holiday weekend.

The highlight of this week was the PJ Entertainment Roadshow. Thank you to the Friends of the school for organising. The class were surprised and impressed and sometimes mystified at the tricks and illusions PJ carried out – they also liked their goodie bags!
In Maths, we have looked at ‘volume’ and will progress to averages and angles early next term. In Literacy, we carried out a written output about ‘Caring for your Miptor’ – we also revised how to punctuate and recognise direct and indirect speech.
The children are upset to see Mrs Hawkins and Mrs Ross leave – we wish them every best wish in their new adventures.
I have set a little homework but appreciate the need for the children to rest and recharge ready for our revision fortnight prior to SAT week. As soon as SATs are over we will be setting off on our Arthog adventure – the children are understandably very excited!
Have a wonderful Easter; I look forward to welcoming your children back at the end of the month. In their final term I will endeavour to reward them for their hard work in the lead up to SATs – we will audition for the play early in the term and, where possible, we will carry out extra PE, Art and IT projects!

We are devastated at the news of Cleo and our thoughts are with her family. We will respect the family’s request for privacy whilst they grieve at this very sad time. Cleo will be sorely missed by all within the school community and we remember her fondly with many happy memories.
In Literacy, we have looked at further grammar activities and we are all now experts in recognising clause types and using colons and semi-colons to separate them. In Maths, we revised area and perimeter and will progress to volume on Monday.
The children contributed well in the NSPCC Workshop and we learnt more about how to stay safe; it is an integral part of their transition for when they progress to their new schools.
It is the final week of term next week and I look forward to seeing you at the Easter Performance/Assembly on Tuesday.
I have set more homework this week and the children have their spellings and reading, as usual.
Have a good weekend.

Assessment Week has finished and we will spend sometime next week reviewing the tests that were conducted. I will inform your child of their scores and I am hoping they will feedback to yourselves. We had an extra assembly about the NSPCC and their work but more importantly the promotion of their ‘Childline’ number. The children are aware of the telephone number and potential scenarios where they might call. A follow up assembly will take place next week. We are looking forward to watching the Y3/4 play on Monday afternoon – it will be a welcomed relief from the recent revision/assessments. I have set some more homework for the coming week and notice we are well on the way to completing the revision guides. I have promoted a good SAT revision site (Revisewise) and the children know how to navigate it – it is a BBC website that has clips and activities in all subjects – I have asked the children to concentrate on areas where they need further practice and to ignore the areas where they feel confident. For the time being, I have also suggested they only look at Maths and Literacy. Have a super weekend; looks like the good weather is with us for a while.

It was great to meet you all again at Parent’s Evening. Your children are working so hard and I appreciate their efforts and your support. In six school weeks we will have completed SATs and your child will be in Arthog! After SATs we can afford to relax a little and I will do my upmost to ensure your child has a fantastic final term at Primary school.
In maths, we have looked at measures: we have estimated, converted and concentrated on both metric and Imperial measurements. The focus has been on grammar and punctuation in Literacy and we have revised the usage of commas, semi-colons and bullet points.
If I haven’t had chance to catch up and report on your child’s progress please contact the office and they will arrange a time for you to come in to see me. Have a super weekend.

The weeks are flying by. We have looked at algebra in Maths and in Literacy we have looked at grammar and writing a continuation of a story. Some have completed their quest and in Science we have looked at inheritance and adaptation. We have managed a couple of booster sessions and mainly looked at a recent SAT comprehension, grammar revision and we have worked on a recent Maths SAT paper together. I look forward to meeting you all again to discuss your child’s progress and what we can all do to ensure they reach their potential in the forthcoming SATs in 6 week’s time. Have a great weekend and as always thank you for encouraging your child with their homework. The completion of their homework benefits your child directly as it offers exposure to the type of questions they will get in their ever-nearing exams.

We have enjoyed writing our ‘Quest’ books in Literacy this week. We carried out the full book writing process from draft of story to its completion and editing. We then created front covers and illustrations to accompany the book. We wrote blurbs, added a content page and drew maps to inform the reader of places they would encounter within the quest and its associated journey. The process was fun and it really hooked the interest of all. I look forward to the session when we share the quests next week. In maths, we have now completed our fraction, decimal and percentage topic and we move onto algebra next Monday. The children learnt how to play Tag Rugby on Monday – details of a competition will follow shortly for those who are entered into the team. I have set new homework; again I thank you for your help in ensuring your child completes it. I have reiterated that the homework can only benefit the children themselves and that completion of the work set can only help them practice the skills necessary for the forthcoming SATs. All made a terrific effort with their World Book Day outfits. Have a super weekend.

We have had a good week back after a great and relaxing half term. On Tuesday, the children helped plant a hedgerow on Monkmoor Meadow. It is a fantastic spot and somewhere we will return to, in the future, when the saplings have had chance to take hold and begin the formation of the replacement hedge. The children enjoyed being outside; it was a fantastic morning weatherise. We have concentrated on grammar activities within Literacy and in Maths we have looked at the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages. We have boosted three afternoons this week and I thank you for continuing to support your children in the completion of their homework. I appreciate I set a quite a lot for half term but I am conscious we complete the revision books prior to the exams in May. On Thursday, we devoted part of our morning to discussing the worrying developments and spread of MOMO. MOMO is a very sinister application that can be found on all internet-linked and social network sites. It encourages people to engage in conversation and as the relationship develops carry out risky and potentially life-threatening dares. I was heartened by the children’s responses and the action they would take if they encountered it whilst on line – they knew to ignore all requests, tell an adult immediately and not engage in conversations/communication. Please be vigilant when allowing your child access to the internet, including access to fortnite etc. Have a super weekend.
