So here it is the end of the Summer Term! The last few weeks have been so busy and gone so quickly I can barely believe it. The children have continued to make us proud right up to the end of term with their great attitude towards their reading, writing and maths and their behaviour at the assemblies and other events we have had recently.
We spent some time this week looking back at all they have learned and how much they have changed since starting in September. We hope you have enjoyed looking back at their English/Drawing Club books as much as we have. It’s so easy to forget where they started on their journey last year so always great to look back. We are so proud of them all, as I’m sure you are too.
Next week I will be closing down their Tapestry accounts so will generate the journals and a media file of photos and videos. A letter will be posted on here to explain how to do this and you will have a few weeks to do it so please don’t panic. Just let me know if you are having any issues with it. You can still contact me on the Beech class email beech@crowmoorschool.co.uk next week if needed.
Finally I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all for all your support over the year, with your child’s learning, attending events and the many kind words that are passed on via the playground and email. Also for the lovely cards and gifts this week, so very kind and thoughtful and most appreciated. Thank you so much.
Although I will be in Year 2 in September, I will only be next door to the children in their new class and will see them on the playground and around school every day and will definitely be hearing how they are getting on.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer break (let’s hope the weather remembers it’s meant to be summer too!) and will look forward to seeing everyone in September.

Another busy week for Beech Class and after a rather wet start to the week, it luckily stayed dry enough yesterday for us to have our sports day. Thank you so much to all who came. It was a great turnout for the children and they did so well with all the events, even with a little stage fright! A massive well done to all the adults who raced at the end – what a competitive bunch you are! Thank you all for being such good sports.
The children were also treated to a sneak preview of the Year 5/6 performance on Monday watching their dress rehearsal to the whole school which they very much enjoyed.
In Drawing Club we read the story Superworm by Julia Donaldson. They have created some superbases, a new baddie and a new superhero to help him. They had some brilliant ideas and continue to work hard on writing independently. Here are some examples of their great work:
In maths we have continued to consolidate key areas such as adding, subtracting and creating repeating patterns. As part of this we read One Is a Snail, Ten Is a Crab and worked on making different numbers according to the number of feet a creature had.
As we we are coming to the end of term and indeed the end of the academic year, we will be taking in the children’s reading books towards the end of next week. Please ensure the children have their reading books and records in school every day so we can keep them reading with them right up until the end of term. Thank you.
Have a great weekend.

What a busy week! The children had a lovely morning on Monday meeting their new teacher Mrs Dowell. They wowed her with their maths skills and super attitude to writing and they were all very excited to tell me all about it when they came back after their lunch break.
Yesterday of course was our fabulous Bollywood dancing session. Thank you so much to everyone who came and joined in. It was a fantastic turnout and the children loved having you there. There will be a video posted to Tapestry shortly.
Today we have been practising all our Sports Day events ready for next week.
Don’t forget it starts at 9:15am on Thursday 13th July. Children should wear their PE kits that day. Keep your fingers crossed for dry weather!
Children will also need their PE kits on Wednesday for a final practice.
In Maths we have been doing lots of consolidation activities addressing some of the misconceptions from last weeks assessments. We have looked further into solving ‘how many more’ problems, missing number problems and revisited sharing equally and ‘grouping’ when we can’t move objects.
The children are continuing to have daily phonics sessions, focusing on building their confidence to read and spell longer words containing Phase 3 sounds. They are also consolidating their knowledge of reading and spelling Phase 4 tricky words. It is really important they continue to read as much as possible at home as well as with the adults and their reading buddies in school to help develop their confidence and fluency.
Please always record in their reading records when you read with them so they have the chance to pick a prize from the lucky dip box on Mondays.
Have a lovely weekend.

On Thursday 6th July the children are allowed to come to school in bright colourful clothes to participate in our Bollywood Dancing sessions. Please ensure children still wear sensible shoes appropriate for school that they can dance in. Parents/Carers/other adults who are coming to join us are welcome to come in their bright colourful clothes too!
Just a reminder that this is not an audience event – you will be participating so bring your dancing shoes! 🙂
Times are as follows:
Chestnut – 9:15am start
Beech – 10:15am start
Elm – 11:15am start
Please ensure you arrive 5-10 minutes before start times so each session can get underway on time. Thank you. We look forward to seeing you then!

Well we have had a busy week practising for our Sports Day, carrying out our assessments and having our first Bollywood Dancing lesson. It was great fun and we cannot wait for all our grown ups to come join us next week to learn the dance too.
Don’t forget it is 10:15am on Thursday 6th July.
Our Sports day is 9:15am on Thursday 13th July, so not long left now!
Next week we will be having PE on Friday as normal so children only need to wear their PE kits on Friday next week.
Have a lovely weekend and don’t forget to keep reading!!

Another week has flown by in Beech Class. We’ve been reading Jack and the Beanstalk in Drawing Club this week and the children have drawn some fabulous pictures of the giant, his castle, an alternative treasure and something Jack might buy with all the gold coins! There are a LOT of sweet tooths in this class who all wanted to buy ginormous chocolate bars and chocolate ice creams! 🙂 They have also written some brilliant sentences to go with their drawings, using their own ideas.
In Maths we have been working on spatial awareness, looking at shapes and models and how to recognise them when they have been rotated. They have also begun their end of term assessments and will continue this next week.
Next week PE will be on MONDAY as we are doing a Sports Day practice whilst the new reception children are in our room for their first induction. There will be no PE again on Friday as we are doing Monday instead.
We will also be having our first Bollywood dancing session next week so that we have a practice before you come to join us on the 6th July. We are really looking forward to it!
If you have any queries about this please email me on beech@crowmoorschool.co.uk
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Jones, Mrs Kenny & Miss Harrison
Please note the children have PE tomorrow (20/6/23) NOT Friday this week so should come in their PE kits tomorrow please! Thank you!
This week we continued with the Tiger Who Came to Tea in Drawing Club and have written thank you letters to Mum and Sophie from the Tiger.
In Phonics we have continued consolidation of Phase 4 and completed assessments. It is really important for the children to keep reading regularly and re-read books so they begin to recognise more words and improve their fluency.
In maths we have revisited subtraction and knowledge of number facts and patterns – missing number problems, odds and evens, bonds to 10, and number facts to 5.
In PE we have begun practicing some events for Sports Day. The children did really well working in teams and have shown some great skill with throwing the javelin for the first time. (Only foam ones!). This will be on the morning of 13th July (see Diary Dates on school website).
The children have also enjoyed playing in our new supermarket roleplay outside, learning about maps, reading and drawing them as well as looking at where we live using Google Earth. They have also been looking after the seeds we planted by watering them and have been checking them to see how they have changed over the last week or two.
Please ensure you check their bags over the weekend. They have brought home an order form for the Class Photos from Tuesday, a special invite for the 6th July and also a special something for someone on Sunday.
Have a lovely weekend.
