Miss Jones
This week the children have enjoyed watching the petals change different colours after we put food colouring in the water. Yesterday, we dissected a flower to look at part of a flower and talked about pollination.
In English, we’ve started to look at limericks. We have looked at and read through a variety of limerick poems, researched rhyming couplets and talked about rhyming patterns and rhythm.
In Maths, we’ve started our new topic position and direction. We have been reading and plotting co-ordinates, drawing 2D shapes on a grid and looked at how to move along a grid.
Our Golden Certificate winner is Isaac. Isaac has slowed down with his reading and is now reading more fluently and showing good understanding of what he has read. He has also been trying hard with his spellings and got 10/10 today.
We hope you have a nice weekend.
Mrs Fairclough, Miss Shadbolt and Mrs Davies.
What a busy week! The children had a lovely morning on Monday meeting their new teacher Mrs Dowell. They wowed her with their maths skills and super attitude to writing and they were all very excited to tell me all about it when they came back after their lunch break.
Yesterday of course was our fabulous Bollywood dancing session. Thank you so much to everyone who came and joined in. It was a fantastic turnout and the children loved having you there. There will be a video posted to Tapestry shortly.
Today we have been practising all our Sports Day events ready for next week.
Don’t forget it starts at 9:15am on Thursday 13th July. Children should wear their PE kits that day. Keep your fingers crossed for dry weather!
Children will also need their PE kits on Wednesday for a final practice.
In Maths we have been doing lots of consolidation activities addressing some of the misconceptions from last weeks assessments. We have looked further into solving ‘how many more’ problems, missing number problems and revisited sharing equally and ‘grouping’ when we can’t move objects.
The children are continuing to have daily phonics sessions, focusing on building their confidence to read and spell longer words containing Phase 3 sounds. They are also consolidating their knowledge of reading and spelling Phase 4 tricky words. It is really important they continue to read as much as possible at home as well as with the adults and their reading buddies in school to help develop their confidence and fluency.
Please always record in their reading records when you read with them so they have the chance to pick a prize from the lucky dip box on Mondays.
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Jones, Mrs Kenny & Miss Harrison
