The penultimate week and what a busy one it has been. We are in the throws of rehearsing our play and I think it is really coming on. The children are doing really well with their line delivery and acting and we have had a couple of sessions to make our props. We completed our Sex and Relationship Education Program this week and the children know all about puberty, the anatomy of the reproductive organs and how to anticipate the changes they will face. The play will take place on Monday afternoon and on Tuesday evening – if you haven’t booked places please do so at the office – they will then know how many seats to put out. Reports go out next week and the Y6 have their final Assembly. Before that they will enjoy the treat day when they go swimming then we will relax in the Quarry prior to a MacDonalds! A very warm but enjoyable week. This week has been all about transition to Secondary school. The children have had their visits to their respective schools and you might have had chance to visit the school too. The church came in to give the children their transition guides and they took part in a workshop that helps inform them of the scenarios and situations they may face at Secondary. On Friday, some children took part in a transition Bikeability course where they cycled to their Secondaries and learnt where to lock up their bikes. Some children represented the school in the very well run ‘Area Sports’ where the children had chance to race/compete against other schools. In class we studied the Mayans in further detail and we learnt about electrical circuits. We practised the play a little and it is really taking shape now. Have a relaxing weekend.

Another action packed week. There have been more murders in Maths. We had Sports Day; a successful mixture of fun activities and competitive races and we continued our Mexican study. We recapped on electricity and safety and will progress to making circuits and drawing circuit diagrams next week. The play rehearsals are going well – to assist with outfit inspiration we may well watch clips from Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’. It is Move-up Day on Monday where all the children in Willow go to their respective Secondaries for the day. Have a great weekend and enjoy the sun.

A better week, this week, weatherise. We managed to play Rounders on Monday after an interesting and informative presentation from a small group of young adults; they went to Thailand to work in a village school and help set up a new church. The told us about their experiences and we played some games and learnt a song in Thai.

On Tuesday we had a visitor in Assembly – they were there to celebrate and raise awareness of National Refugee Week.

We continued with our murder investigations in Maths and in Science we continued our Evolution study. We started our Mexico topic and looked at the geographic features of the country and compared Mexico to the UK.

On Friday, half the class represented the school in a Rounders Competition at Prestfelde whilst the remaining half looked at and designed a Mayan mask. We managed a couple of Alice run throughs; the play is developing well – homework continues to be learning lines and putting expression in to their part.

It is Sports Day next Thursday (weather permitting) – all welcome. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the weekend.

The week started with an excellent workshop led by the ‘Animal man’. It was fun, very informative and extremely hands-on! The children learnt about the environment and the animals found within it. They had a chance to handle unusual animals and I was impressed with their bravery – especially when handling the snakes and lizards! We continued investigating the Maths Murders and the children, in their pairs, have correctly identified suspects and the locations of the jewels. We continued our Science study relating to Evolution and in Literacy we created some excellent writing about ‘Alma’. We carried out our auditions for ‘Alice – The Musical!’ and all the children have their parts – we will now press on with our rehearsals. Have a great weekend.

We have had a really busy and productive week. We continued our Anglo Saxon/Viking study and we enjoyed a maths murder problem solving mystery. In Literacy we produced an Arthog recount and to celebrate World Environment Day we looked at global warming and the future of turtles in Mexico. The highlight of the week was attending Crucial Crew – an informative day where children learn life skills. We even managed to squeeze in a game of Rounders on Monday – even though SATs have finished we are still learning new skills but in a less time pressured framework. This time last week we were all set for our Arthog adventure. We returned on Monday and were lucky with the weather throughout the entire weekend. It helped show the area to its full potential and made the activities that little more comfortable. The children, and myself, were exhausted on return but what a long weekend we had. The children were a credit to you all and I think all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We returned to Arts week and where possible I have focused the art activities around Arthog. The children created some funny and creative cartoons retelling adventures, we created a brochure advising others what they might expect and the children replicated Van Gogh’s sunflowers. I am conscious that the children have a limited time left at Crowmoor so thought it was appropriate to sketch the school from an outdoor perspective. Have a super half term.

SATs are over! The children were so focused this week and they gave each paper their very best. We covered the entire Maths and Literacy curriculum and as such the children were as ready for the exams as I think they could have been. I was impressed with their pace and their commitment to trying their absolute hardest. We now have the Arthog adventure and I am really looking forward to spending an activity-filled long weekend on the Welsh Coast. The children will learn new skills and challenge themselves. They will rock climb, gorge walk, canoe and build rafts all whilst working as a team and supporting one another in each activity. I will endeavour to update you on our progress through this ‘Class’ page – as you can imagine the weekend will be quite action packed and I may not have a great deal of time to update on here. The updates will be in relation to the class as a whole – it is not an appropriate forum to include names on this page.
