Willow – Homework – 14.1.22
Good afternoon,
Homework this half-term will follow the same pattern as last term. The children will have a piece related to maths and a piece related to English. It will be given on a Friday and needs to be returned by the following Thursday.
Maths Challenge
The children have written 4 fractions in their books (1/4, 3/4, 2/5, 7/8) they then need to think of a number to find that fraction of. The children are choosing their own numbers based on how confident they feel.
e.g. Easier one: 1/4 of 8, or a harder one 1/4 of 92
English Challenge
The children have to write a story about a turtle. They need to use at least 8 modal verbs (which need to be underlined/highlighted). I expect the quality of the story to reflect what they would produce in class.
If there are any questions please email me,

Willow – 14.1.22
Good afternoon,
We have had another very productive week, the children have produced some very persuasive letters, which they will be bringing home to share with you next week.
In maths, we have finished our work on fractions and next week we will be moving on to decimals. For science, we have started our unit on light by exploring how the eye works and in our topic lesson we have looked at where we are in the Solar System.
Some of the children’s reading records are looking rather empty over the last week, please ensure they are reading and then try to remember to record their reading.
I hope you all have a relaxing weekend,
Mr Reynolds
Willow – 7.1.22
Good afternoon,
We have had a very positive start to the New Year. The children have come back with great attitudes and I am looking forward to the work they will produce.
We have started this term in English by moving on to persuasive writing; the children have finished this week by writing letters, to persuade me to change things in the classroom.
In maths, we have looked at multiplying and dividing fractions, which they have picked up very well. In topic, we have started our Space unit, and to start this off the children have designed rockets, thinking about aerodynamics and stability.
As always please keep encouraging the children to read daily at home, and keep practicing their times tables.
Hope you have a good weekend,
Mr Reynolds
Willow – Spellings – 7.1.22
This week we are changing the suffix of a root word.
Willow – 17.12.21
Good afternoon,
Wow, what an end to the term. The children have worked so hard:
- In English, they have written some lovely Christmas stories.
- In maths, they have created (and tried to solve) some Christmas based mathematical questions.
- In topic, we have concluded our Design and Technology project by creating bridges. These have been amazing.
For all of the work the children have completed this week, please do ask them to show you on our class Teams page (the children know how to access this).
I have been really impressed with the enthusiasm and hard work the children have demonstrated this term, they deserve a well earned break, however I am looking forward to the new year and hope they continue their enthusiasm and thirst for learning.
Thank you for the range of cards and thoughtful gifts, it was very kind and appreciated.
I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and New Year. As always please keep up the reading,
Mr Reynolds
Willow – 10.12.21
Good afternoon,
This week has been our assessment week in Willow Class, the children were very focused and determined to do their best. I was very impressed by their attitude.
In science this week, the children carried out their investigations, looking at how we can measure how healthy someone is. There was a range of testing strategies and a range of outcomes, all children were willing to get involved and be the test subjects for each other.
In topic, we continued looking at how to build different parts of a bridge, We had some success and gained a better understanding of what we need to do next week.
Finally, I would just like to say a huge thank you and well done to the 6 children who represented us at the orienteering competition today. They achieved 3rd place and showed great sportsmanship by helping out other teams who got confused.
Hope you all have a relaxing weekend,
Mr Reynolds
Willow – Spellings – 10.12.21
This week’s spellings are all Christmas themed.
Willow – 26.11.21
Good afternoon,
We have had a busy week in Willow class, with the children producing a range of work along with some really good discussion.
In English, we have started our new focus on character descriptions, starting with describing a characters emotions with out simply just saying their emotion. In maths, we have continued with our fraction work, looking at comparing, adding and subtracting.
For our topic work, we have investigated the bridges of Shrewsbury and construction techniques and have now moved on to looking at constructing a bridge ourselves, thinking about the rigidity of shape and materials.
As always please keep up the daily reading, have a great weekend,
Mr Reynolds
