Welcome back! And welcome to Year 5!
The children have made an excellent start to Year 5 and have been working very hard. We have made the most of the hot weather and have been taking this opportunity to read in our outside area.
In English, we have been focusing on using capital letters and full stops to ensure all children have a secure understanding of the structure of a sentence before moving on. All children have worked really hard to showcase their neatest handwriting and presentation.
In Maths, we have started our unit on Place Value. This week, we have looked at Roman Numerals and numbers up to 1 million!
This week’s Golden Certificate Winner is Ethan. He has had a fantastic week this week and has tried really hard to ensure his presentation is neat. He will take home our ‘Oak Class Diary’, which all children will have opportunity to add to, letting their classmates know what they got up to over the weekends. Well Done Ethan, keep up the hard work!
Just a quick reminder that PE is now on Thursdays, so please send your child in the correct PE kit on this day.
If you have any questions or queries please send an email to the class email: oak@crowmoorschool.co.uk

We are nearly at the end of Year 5!
In English, we have continued to work on our discussion pieces of writing. The children have typed up and completed their balanced arguments, discussing whether America is the best place to live or not. They have all worked really hard to ensure they have included both the positive and negative points.
In Maths, we have started to look at Volume. The children have done a great job at building shapes using the multi-link cubes and calculating the volume. They have successfully compared and estimated the volume of given shapes.
In Design + Technology, we have designed and created our Mayan headdresses, which look absolutely AMAZING! We are all super excited to show you all of our hard work on the Mayans on Monday at our Mayan Museum.
A quick update about Monday: Our Mexican day and Mayan Museum is on Monday 17th July. On Monday, please could all children come to school in the Mexican flag colours: red, white, green or bright-coloured clothing. The Mayan Museum starts at 2pm.

Welcome back! The countdown to summer begins (and YEAR 6!)
We have started some super exciting units this term. In English, we have started our discussion unit. The children are creating a balanced argument for “Should animals be kept in zoos?”. The children have made an excellent start and have seen the importance of arguing both sides. In Maths, we have began our unit on ‘Position and Direction’. I feel the children have worked exceptionally hard and are always looking to challenge themselves. We are working on our skills when using a ruler. In our afternoons, we have kicked off our ‘Mayan Civilisation’ topic and started linking our Geography to the Mayans. In particular, the children have made some great contributions to our RE unit. They have been extremely respectful when starting this inquiry topic. To maintain positivity as we come to the end of this year, we have created a gratitude jar full of what we are thankful for and our positive affirmations.
