This week has gone so quickly. The children have continued to work very hard and deserve a break. I have set a little homework to ensure they keep their skills ticking along. This week’s highlight was going to see ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ at Belvidere Secondary. The standard was incredibly high and it was professionally put together. Earlier in the week we acted out scenes from our play scripts following the influence of ‘The Highwayman’ and we produced scary and atmospheric writing about ‘The Deserted House’. In maths we continued with measures. The ‘Class Member of the Week’ certificate goes to Bruna Brava. Have a fantastic half term.

We completed our half termly assessments this week; the analysis of the papers will help form areas we can revise in booster sessions next week. The children will have chance to review their answers and we will look at how to address misconceptions should similar questions appear in future papers. Well done to the children who represented the children in the Belvidere Football Competition; they all played well and were a credit to the school. I have arranged for the class visit to Belvidere next week to watch their yearly production… Thoroughly Modern Millie. George is our ‘Class Member of the Week’ this week. Have a super weekend.

Willow have had a fun week creating models of houses and applying our electrical knowledge to house alarm systems. We also continued our Highwayman study creating alternative endings in the form of narrative and poem. In Maths we looked at measure, particularly length, this will continue into next week when we learn about weight and capacity. Our ‘Class Member of the Week’ goes to Ben Cummings. Have a super weekend.

What a wet and windy week! On Wednesday, Willow went to Belvidere Secondary; we attended another fun and enjoyable Science workshop. The session related to forces associated with a falling paper helicopter. We altered wing/rotor lengths to see how it affects fall times. In Maths we honed our percentage finding skills and in Literacy we studied Alfred Noyes’s Highwayman poem. We compared the poem to a haunting musical version and then created an abridged recount. Our ‘Class Member of the Week’ certificate goes to Alysha Davies. Have a great weekend.

A cold and windy week! Thank you for supporting your child with their homework. The SAT Books have gone down a treat and the homework intention is to allow your child a further chance to practice and revise skills learnt. They know I am available at any point to help and assist, should they need it. The week finished with percentages in Maths, classic poetry evaluations in Literacy and in Science we have learnt about symbols and faults in electrical circuits. The Termly Newsletter (Spring Edition) is now on our class page so please have a look and see what topics I intend covering over the coming weeks. This week’s class certificate goes to Alexander O’Hara – well done Alex. Have a super weekend.

An action packed and busy week. On Wednesday Willow went to Belvidere Secondary and we took part in another superb Science experiment. We investigated dissolving ice using rock salt, pure salt and sugar and compared these results to our ‘control’ ice cube. The resulting discussions were interesting and based on what we had learnt. On the same day we enjoyed a couple of cartoon and story workshops – these were run by the energetic and enthusiastic Etherington Brothers. We have continued with decimals in maths and in literacy we have focused on grammar conventions and writing. Revision guides have gone out today and will form the basis of our homework this term. Have a great weekend.

Happy New Year! We have had a great start to the year. We progressed our decimal skills in maths and we enjoyed recounting our Christmas Holiday. We managed to complete a couple of booster sessions in the afternoon and we rescheduled our Carol concert to Friday afternoon. Well done to the children in the choir and those that read/lead the prayer. Have a super weekend.

What an amazing amount of snow! It is beginning to thaw and all is returning to normal. Thank you for your patience at the beginning and end of each school day. We have revised adding and subtracting fractions and in literacy we have reflected and recounted what we know of the Christmas story. The children will have a little amount of homework over the holiday but I am keen they have time to spend in your company and that they return fresh and raring to go. Have a fantastic Christmas holiday and I wish everyone a joyous and healthy New Year.
