Please find the homework for this week, next week and the Easter Holidays. I will post the answers each week so you can see how you are getting on. Remember it only benefits you and whilst you are off school I would argue it is more important than ever. Homework Week 9, Week 10 and Hols

The children in Willow enjoyed writing their ‘Planet Unknown’ stories – the idea of this story writing was to assess whether the children are putting recently learnt grammar techniques into practise. Prior to this piece of writing we revised when to use paragraphs and we revised using Standard English ensuring we remain in the correct tense.
In maths, we studied how to read and interpret the data in timetables then we moved onto calculating the area and perimeter of compound shapes, the area of triangles and finding the volume of shapes.
In RE, we discussed what we think Heaven is and compared it to how other religions view their version of Heaven. We completed a comprehension in two small groups and discussed exam technique and how to locate the clues within the text and how these relate to the question. We also did a similar activity with a Maths Reasoning Paper. In IT, the children carried out some personal revision using BBC Bitesize – this is a great resource and will help your child with areas they may need a little more support. The site is accessible at home by putting ‘Bitesize’ into the Google browser; select ‘English’ or ‘Maths’ then select the topic of interest.
We marked homework and more has been set. If your child has missed previous homework I recommend they complete it as it will only assist/benefit them in the long run.
In relation to our preparation towards Coronavirus; we have learnt how to wash our hands properly (using the 13 steps as per NHS guidelines) and we conducted two experiments to show how sneezing can spread germs and how germs on our hands can be passed on; this highlighted the importance of using soap and washing hands, when appropriate/necessary.
Have a great weekend.

This week seems to have flown by. You found out where your child will be going to Secondary school and in the main, the schools were as hoped/expected.
It’s been a sporty week; we had an extra PE session on Monday (Tag Rugby) in preparation for a competition later in the term. Some children represented the class and the school in the Basketball competition on Friday and quite a number of the class are dancing on the pitch at the forthcoming town game.
In Maths, we have looked at time, timetables and imperial units of measurement. In Literacy, we have revised apostrophes and fronted adverbials. We started our new Science unit (electricity) and the children learnt what immortality means in RE. We practised the songs for ‘Daniel’ – a forthcoming singing festival at Belvidere Secondary; letters, asking for volunteers, went home earlier in the week.
Homework has been marked and new work set. Thank you again for encouraging its completion. You child knows I am available to support them, if they require assistance.
Have a super weekend.

It was great to catch up with you all this week. I enjoy telling you about the progress of your children and reporting back on my intentions and their current attainment. If I didn’t get the chance to see you and you would like to make an appointment please contact the school office and they will arrange a time to meet.
We have had a great week. In Literacy, we have carried out a comprehension, we reviewed the recent Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling assessment and looked at the prepositions and the present progressive.
In Maths, we continued to convert measurements, mainly metric, and we solved problems that relate to real life situations. We also reviewed one of the maths assessments we carried out before half term.
We had an extra PE session, tag rugby, on Friday and they will have another on Monday morning. Please ensure they have their PE kit.
Homework from half term has been marked and I have set more.
Have a great weekend, fortunately the flood situation is improving; a relief to many within our town.

The final week of this half term and we are now well over half way through the year. It is going quickly!
The highlight of the week was watching ‘Sister Act’ at Belvidere Secondary – it was very funny and all enjoyed it tremendously.
We have completed a couple of assessments with the intention that I can give you up to date information in the forthcoming Parent Consultations. I look forward to celebrating your child’s successes and will provide areas where you can work with your child to develop their learning.
We have had a focus on keeping safe on the internet and the children know how to protect themselves and their online profiles. In Science, we discussed the evolution of Humans and we looked at advantages and disadvantages of some animal adaptations.
The homework I set last week is for half term too so please encourage your child in ensuring they complete it so we can mark it in a couple of weeks. Have a fantastic break and fingers crossed Storm Dennis doesn’t create too much havoc and inconvenience.

It is the penultimate week of this half term and what a week it has been. Miss Shadbolt unfortunately leaves us after an excellent student teacher placement. She has really enjoyed working with your children and will be sad to leave. Willow wish Miss Shadbolt every best wish for the future and we hope that she will return to see the class in our end of year performance.
In Literacy, the children continued with their sci-fi stories and in maths we began to look at measures – we will continue with both topics and complete them next week. We had an extra PE lesson on Wednesday and some children represented the school in a Netball Festival at Belvidere. In RE we wrote our own Creation stories and in Art we created our own front pages and blurb for sci-fi stories we wrote in literacy.
We have marked the homework and, as usual, more has been set. Please continue to support your children as they know the more work they put in the higher the grade they will achieve in their SATs in May.
Have a great weekend.

We are about to enter the penultimate week for this first half term! It is also Miss Shadbolt’s last week – we have really enjoyed her time within Willow and all children have benefited from her teaching, enthusiasm and commitment. It has been an absolute pleasure hosting her in her final placement – she’ll be teaching full-time in September with a class of her own.
In Maths, the children have enjoyed and excelled at algebra and in Literacy we have started to write our Science Fiction stories – this will continue next week as we have only just began to devise our settings and characters. In RE, we looked at the Hindu Creation story – next week the children get a chance to make their own up. We had an extra PE session and in History we learnt about famous astronauts. The children also learnt more songs for the upcoming ‘Daniel’ performance and they enjoyed another music and French session.
We have marked the homework and the children have their next instalment – I am encouraged by their commitment and enthusiasm towards progressing their knowledge. If they struggle please encourage them to come and see me – ideally a few days before we mark on a Friday to enable completion prior to marking.
I hope you have a restful and happy weekend.

We have had another fun and action-packed week. In Literacy, we studied Discussion and Debate in more detail and on Friday the children had the opportunity to try their persuasive skills in a class debate about Social Media usage. In Maths, the children practised their decimal skills by multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. We also revised our skills in multiplying and dividing decimals by whole numbers.
We learnt about Adaptation and how animals have evolved over the years and the reasons for this and in RE we studied the Hindu Creation Story. The children really enjoyed learning about the Space Race and were enthused during the activity.
On Thursday, Willow welcomed parents into class to listen to their children read and to soak up the atmosphere of our class; we will be doing it again on 6th Feb – please come, if you can make it.
I think that summarises our week. New homework has been set and we have marked the homework to date.
Have a super weekend.

A busy but enjoyable week. In Literacy, we looked at ‘Discussion’ and learnt how to distinguish arguments that are ‘for’ and ‘against’ a cause. In Maths, we completed our ‘Position and Direction’ unit and have since moved onto ‘Decimals’. We started our new Science unit – ‘Evolution and Inheritance’ and to help us later compare we studied the Creation story from the Christian and Islamic faith. We had a fun Music session where we compared two songs and their features and in IT we continued with our ‘Programming’ topic. Friday was predominantly PSHE led and we had a talk from a couple of students from Shrewsbury College about how to keep healthy – this linked well to our previous term’s Science.
Thank you for helping your child with the completion of their homework or ensuring they devote time to complete it. We marked it on Friday and I have set more (a similar amount) for completion next Friday.
Have a super weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, from 2:50pm-3:10pm, if you can spare the time to visit the class to read with your child.
Spring 2020 Topic Planning ‘Out of this World’
Please see the link below. It details what I intend covering with the children this term. I think you will agree it looks like an exciting and motivational theme.
