What a super week we have had this week, learning 4 new sounds in phonics and starting Drawing Club.
This week in Drawing Club we read The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas and have been learning some new vocabulary – shimmering, sobbing, enraged, evaporate, timid and tranquility. The children have been drawing their own colour monster, an emotion thief, a map to help the colour monster find the thief and their design for a trap to stop the emotion thief coming back. Every day they have been creating their own passcode or secret password by writing letters, numbers and shapes. Here are some examples of what they have been busy creating:
In Maths we have been comparing size, amounts and weights and working on using the correct vocabulary – big, bigger/est, small, smaller/est, tall, taller/est, short, shorter/shortest and more/fewer.
We have also been learning some new fun poems this week – Popcorn and Chop Chop! Make sure you have a look on Tapestry to see the children performing them and I am sure they will be more than happy to share them with you at home.
The children will have brought their information sheets home during the week to share the sounds we have learnt so far and next week they will all also have a ‘sounds’ zippy bag with sound cards in. These are mini versions of the sound cards we use in class so they can continue to practice with cards they are familiar with. We have continued doing lots of ‘robot-talk’ (oral blending) throughout the week too as this all helps support the children as they start to learn to read.
Don’t forget it is PE on Friday every week so the children come to school that day wearing their PE kits and stay in them all day. As the weather is turning colder, they can wear dark blue or black joggers rather than shorts.
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
