A reminder that we break up for the Christmas holidays on Wednesday 20th December.
Wednesday 3rd January 2024 is a PD day.
We return to school on Thursday 4th January 2024.
From Thursday 14th December until Wednesday 20th December (last day or term) children are welcome to come into school in something “Christmassy” For example, this could be a bit of tinsel in their hair! Or a Christmas jumper. “Christmassy” clothes can be worn instead of uniform or children can keep wearing their uniform if they wish.

Thank you to all the Parents/Carers who have gone online and registered their parent pay accounts! This is fantastic to see.
Please can we remind all parents/carers to do this. From Monday 4th December we will no longer be accepting cash/cheques in school. Therefore, it is really important parents/carers activate their Parent Pay accounts.
If your child is in receipt of free school meals you must still activate your account for payments such as school trips.
If you need a new activation letter/ any assistance with setting up your account please see the office 🙂
The children’s knowledge of London as our capital city is really growing. They can recognise familiar landmarks and have used this information to write a letter as a character in this week’s book: Topsy and Tim visit London. All children are having a go at writing their own sentences and some are including conjunctions such as ‘and’ to join ideas together.
In maths we are practising our bonds of numbers to 10 and making sure we can record fact families using addition and subtraction sentences. We have also started to learn about shape. We have recognised, named and sorted simple 3D and 2D shapes by looking at their properties.
Please ask your child to find things around the home which are:
In geography this week, the children have learnt about Wales as part of the United Kingdom. They should know the capital city, national flower, national vegetable and be able to recognise the Welsh flag.
In history, we looked at the importance of a family tree to the monarchy. The children had a go at drawing their own family tree.
Please remember that PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please make sure that all items of clothing which are likely to be removed during the day are clearly named. We often have a collection of jumpers and cardigans with no names, they must have come from some where!
Your child needs the following things in school everyday:
We have started to learn our class song ready for Christmas so watch this space!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs Dowell, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Savory
Another week has flown by I can barely believe it’s almost the end of November!
In English we are continuing to read The Pied Piper of Hamelin by Michael Morpurgo and the children are becoming really engrossed in the story. We’ve written character and setting descriptions so far and this week enjoyed lots of role play and hot seating to prepare for writing our newspaper report. We have been focusing on using conjunctions – because, but, if and when – and making sure we are using the correct tense when writing.
Last week in Maths we started our unit on Shape, focusing mainly on refreshing their knowledge of 2D shape names and properties, learning to talk about the number of sides and vertices different shapes have. This week we have moved on to 3D shapes, learning to name and describe them by talking about their faces, edges and vertices.
In computing the children are learning about digital photography and how they can use framing, positioning and lighting to ensure they take good photos as well as learning about the right to privacy and asking for permission when taking a photo of a person.
They are enjoying learning about The Great Fire of London in History, finding out about the events of the fire but also what it was like to live in 1666. They have been quite surprised by some of the jobs that existed then and how they are different today. In geography We’ve spent some time exploring atlases and Google earth to help us compare London to Shrewsbury and have been exploring building structures in D&T.
Please note, next week only PE will be on WEDNESDAY (29th) and Thursday (30th), instead of Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure children are in their PE kits on those days. If you have any queries, please email me on the class email elm@crowmoorschool.co.uk
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Jones & Mrs Evason
Yesterday, the children tried different foods in Design and Technology, in preparation for us to plan and make our healthy meal at the end of this half term. The children had mixed responses to the food tasted, and tried to think about the aroma, flavour, taste and texture.
In English, we have been looking at features of a historical story ready to write our own next week. We have also been looking at how and why adjectives and adverbs are used, and how we can use more adventurous vocabulary in our writing.
In Maths, we have multiplying and dividing a number by 1 and itself, multiplying three number together and looking at factor pairs.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Ben. He is eager to learn, always listening and sets a great example. This week, Ben has used his logic skills as well as his mathematical skills to solve problems in maths. Well done.
At the end of Year 4, children should be able to recall their times tables up to 12.
Here are some links the children can use to help them practise their times tables at home:
Times tables games – Learn them all here!
Hit the Button – Quick fire maths practise for 6-11 year olds (topmarks.co.uk)
Next Friday (1st December), Year 4 will start their swimming block, so please send your child with swimming kits and make sure they have a coat with them. Thank you.
Have a great weekend.
