This week in Literacy we have started to look at setting descriptions and finding features in an example text. We have been looking at figurative language and thinking of our own examples of similes, metaphors, personification and hyperbole.

In Maths, we have been looking at; 12 times tables and division facts, multiplying by 1 and 0, dividing a number by itself or 1 and multiplying 3 numbers.

In Science, we have been using mirrors and the children enjoyed creating messages for their friends to work out. We have also been creating a design for our light in DT and talking about respectful relationships in PSHE.

Our Golden Certificate Winner is Frankie. This week when looking at figurative language, Frankie could think of a great metaphor. Well done, Frankie.

The children will start their swimming lessons next Friday (2nd December) so please can they bring in their swimming kits to school. Thank you.

It has been great to welcome all of the children back after half term.

This week in Literacy, we have been looking at character descriptions. The children have been looking at the features of a character description and today have been writing their own character description about Sir Captain Thomas Moore.

Our Golden Certificate winner is Taylor for his effort in Literacy. He worked hard with Mrs Fairclough this week to find features of a character description. Well done, Taylor.

In Maths, we have been looking at area. The children have been making rectilinear shapes using squares, measuring, comparing and accurately counting squares to find the area.

In Science, we have started to learn all about Light. This week we discussed what a light source is and that dark is the absence of light.

In PSHE, we have been talking about what makes a good friend and have started to look at what bullying is.

Next week we will be talking more about Remembrance. The children have asked questions which we will be looking at next week. For example, Why do we wear poppies? What happens to them after we wear them? What is the money is used for?

Just a reminder that P.E is now on Wednesday.

It’s been a short but busy week this week.
It was nice to see so many parents/carers at parents evening this week.

This week in Literacy, we’ve planned, written and edited our letters to Tom Palmer, the author of our class book, D-Day Dog. We shared with him our thoughts and feelings of his book.

Our Golden Certificate winner is Rosie for her fantastic writing. Well done Rosie.

In Maths, we have finished our unit in addition and subtraction. This week we have estimated answers, checked the strategies we use to ensure we are using an efficient method and completed our end of unit assessment.

At parents evening, we talked about the multiplication check at the end of the year and children practicing their times tables at home as welll as at school. Here are links to some games children can play to support their Maths:

This week in Literacy, we’ve started to look at writing an informal letter. We’ve been finding features in an example and looking at how to use commas in a list and subordinating conjunctions.
We were very excited to receive a letter from Tom Palmer and will be writing to him next week.

In Maths, we started the week adding with more than one exchange and then moved onto subtraction. We’ve been subtracting with no, one and more than one exchange.
We’ve also been going over our number bonds to ensure we can recall them quickly to help with our addition and subtraction.

Our Golden Certificate winner is Harrison. Harrison has worked hard in Literacy and Maths. He was able to talk about features of a letter and gave examples of subordinating conjunctions. In Maths, he has got straight on with his work and shown good understanding. Well done Harrison.

Parents evening times have been given out today. It will be nice to see you all next week and let you know how your children have settled into class.

This week in literacy, we’ve been planning, writing and editing our biographies about Captain Sir Thomas Moore. We’ve been talking about the features of a biography such as fronted adverbials, past tense and third person.

In Maths, we’ve started looking at addition and subtraction. After adding and subtracting 1, 10 and 100 at the beginning of the week we then looked at adding with no, one and multiple exchanges. Next week, we will continue adding with more than one exchange and look at subtraction.

Olivia is our Golden Certificate winner this week for her fantastic presentation in maths. This has really helped her to work out her addition calculations.

This week in literacy, we’ve been learning more about features of a biography including third person and fronted adverbials ready to include them in our biography next week. Today we’ve been finding out about Captain Sir Thomas Moore who we will be writing a biography about.

In maths, we’ve been finishing off place value and looking at round to the nearest multiple of 10, 100 and 1,000. Next week we’ll start to look at addition and subtraction.

We’ve continued talking about families and how they are all different. Today we’ve talked about people that are important to us and why, and what makes us part of a family.

Our Golden Certificate winner is Noah. He is a great role model who gets on with everyone in class and always tries hard. Well done Noah.

Hello!

The end of another week! We are on the final stretch now to the end of the year. What a week we have had. We’ve finished our unit on properties of shape in maths, and we have completed our explanation texts in literacy.

On Monday, we watched the Year 5 and 6 dress rehearsal for their production. We thoroughly enjoyed this!

Tuesday was sports day. We ran, jumped and egg and spooned our way to the finish line and had lots of fun doing so. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to Mrs Brunyard for working so hard to organise it!

Next week, children are welcome to come to school in their P.E. kits, due to the warm weather. Wednesday will be a non-uniform day.
