Sycamore Weekly Class Newsletter 15.07.22

Hello!

The end of another week! We are on the final stretch now to the end of the year. What a week we have had. We’ve finished our unit on properties of shape in maths, and we have completed our explanation texts in literacy.

On Monday, we watched the Year 5 and 6 dress rehearsal for their production. We thoroughly enjoyed this!

Tuesday was sports day. We ran, jumped and egg and spooned our way to the finish line and had lots of fun doing so. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to Mrs Brunyard for working so hard to organise it!

Next week, children are welcome to come to school in their P.E. kits, due to the warm weather. Wednesday will be a non-uniform day.

Have a fab weekend!

Sycamore Weekly Class Newsletter 8.7.22

Hello!

We’re at the end of the week again. This term feels like it’s flying by, it’ll be over before we know it. This week, we have been completing our assessments. We have done our maths and reading, and we’ve even done a piece of writing about Paddington Bear and The Queen.

In Science, we set up an investigation to find out what effects different drinks can have on your teeth. We poured drinks with varying levels of sugar into a pot with our ‘teeth’ to see how long it take for teeth to decay. We didn’t use real teeth off course, but eggs! We can’t wait to make observations and see the results next week.

Can you please make sure that children are still bringing in their books and reading records. Even though it’s coming closer to the end of term, reading is still a top priority, so don’t stop!

Have a fab weekend.

Miss Allison and Mrs Davies

Sycamore Weekly Class Newsletter 24.06.22

Hello!

We’ve had a fantastic week in Sycamore class!

In Literacy, we have tasted salsa and explored Mexican food. We have written our own  instructions how to make salsa and we are going to use these next week when we make our own!

In Maths, we have moved onto a new unit of work and are beginning to explore angles and shapes. We went out onto the playground and practiced doing half and quarter turns clockwise and anticlockwise.

In topic, we have studied lots more about food around the world and talked about how rice is used as a staple in lots of countries. We also enjoyed cooking and tasting our rice. Yum! In History, we looked at some different types of steam locomotives and made some fantastic posters. In PSHE, we talked about the effects that medicine and drugs can have on your body and how we can keep ourselves safe.

Have an amazing weekend!

Sycamore Weekly Class Newsletter 17.6.22

Hello!

What a scorcher! We’ve had a fantastic week. We’ve looked at all of the features of a set of instructions and practiced our grammar ready for writing these next week. We also had some fantastic pieces of free writing this week!

In maths, we have been working on our statistics unit. We’ve been looking at data on tables and charts and comparing then. Well done to the Year 4 children who completed their multiplication check this week. They really gave it their all and I am so proud of every single one of them!

In PSHE we have talked about the different types of drugs and how they can sometimes be positive and sometimes be negative. In Design and Technology, we have talked about the eatwell plate and how ingredients for lots of different recipes fit into this. Our science this week was looking at the functions of the digestive system. We played ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ with questions on the digestive system, which we all thoroughly enjoyed!

Starting next week, we will no longer have P.E. on a Monday, so children should come dressed in their school uniform.

Stay cool and have a fantastic weekend!

Miss Allison and Mrs Davies.

Sycamore Class Weekly Newsletter 27.5.22

Hello!

We have had a fantastic week!

This week, we finished our poems about the chocolate river from ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. They are amazing! In maths, we continued our unit on time.

We created our own water cycle in a bag in science, so we can observe water evaporating and condensing. These are on the window in our classroom and we will be keeping an eye on them over the next couple of weeks.

We have really enjoyed celebrating the jubilee this week. We have designed our own bunting, made cards to send to the Queen, and even made our own flags! Of course we finished the week off with our Jubilee picnic. The children’s 70s costumes really blew me away, they were fantastic! We had a lot of fun performing ‘Dancing Queen’ at the picnic too. The hard work that the children put in practicing really did pay off!

Have a great half term and we will see you back after the break!

Sycamore Weekly Class Newsletter 13.5.22

Hello!

We are at the end of the week!

We have had so much fun this week. In Literacy, we have written and performed our very own play scripts. The imagination was amazing!

In maths, we have been learning about position and direction. We have learned how to plot co-ordinates on a grid and how to translate shapes. Next week we will be moving on to time.

In science this week, we have talked about changed of state. We have investigated how solids melt into liquids and that this is a reversible change. We even got to eat some chocolate! (Thank you Miss Childs!)

Have a fantastic weekend!

Sycamore Class Weekly Newsletter 6.5.22

Hello!

We have had a fantastic week.

In Literacy, we have continued our work on play scripts. We have explored how using stage directions affects the way we perform and how the structure of a script works. In maths, we have completed our unit on money. The children absolutely aced it! Well done to each and every one of you, you’ve all worked so hard in this unit.

In Science, we carried out an investigation using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and bubbles. We will be finishing the write up for our investigation next week. In Geography, we discussed latitude and longitude and even used 4 figure grid references!

Can I please remind you that when children come in their P.E. kit on a Monday and Thursday, they should be wearing dark blue or black jogging bottoms, a plain white t-shirt and a dark blue or black hoodie (or a school jumper/cardigan). Any pumps or trainers which stay on their feet as they run around. If children have their ears pierced, they must be able to take them out themselves.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Sycamore Class Weekly Newsletter 29.4.22

Hello!

What a wonderful first week back we have had!

In Literacy, we’ve started our unit of work on play scripts. We’re basing our work on Oliver Twist. We have had lots of fun acting it out and getting used to the style of a play script. In Maths, we’ve started our unit on money. We’ve looked at all of the coins and notes you can use and compared different amounts of money.

Our topic this term is ‘Where in the world?’. Children have been sent home earlier this week with a homework sheet, there are lots of great things for you to get stuck in to!

Just a reminder that P.E. is currently on both Monday and Thursday, so children need to come to school dressed in their P.E. kits on these days.

Last term, all of the classes took part in the coin challenge to fill up a jar with coins. Sycamore class did very well and we came second! We will be taking part again this term, if we manage to raise the most amount of money, our class will get a prize!

Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the bank holiday!

Sycamore Class Weekly Newsletter 1.4.22

Hello!

We made it to the end of the week

I am so proud of all of their children for their amazing performances of our stone age play ‘Rock Bottom’. They had so much fun and put so much hard work into it. Thank you for all your help and support with costumes and line learning.

In Literacy, we have been reading and performing a poem called ‘The Magic Box’. We have discussed the features of a text and identified these in our poem.

In Maths, we have been learning about decimals. We have found tenths and hundredths.

Next week, we look forward to our trip to Aico in Oswestry Monday. Children should still come into school in their school uniform.

Have a fantastic weekend!
