Sycamore Class Newsletter 29.9.23

The weeks seem to be flying by!

The children have been planning, writing and editing their explanation text this week in English. We have been recapping features of explanation texts and talking about reading our work back.

Noah was our golden certificate winner this week for his fantastic explanation text on volcanoes. He is a excellent role model to his peers; he listens well, is eager to learn, tries hard and contributes well in our class discussions. Well done, Noah.

In Maths, we have been rounding numbers to 10, 100 and 1,000 and looking at negative numbers. Today, we finished our unit on place value and the children completed their end of unit test. Next week, we will looking at addition and subtraction.

The children have also enjoyed printing in Art, creating their own classification key in Science and talking about how they made friends and common interests in PSHE.

We hope you have a great weekend.

Sycamore Class Newsletter 15.9.23

We have had another busy week in Sycamore Class. In English, we have started our unit on explanation text. This week we have been finding features of explanation texts and analysing a text. We then more closely at two features: technical vocabulary and present tense.

In Maths, we have continued our work on place value. This week we have been partitioning numbers to 1,000, finding 1, 10, 100 and 1,000 more and less and representing numbers on a number line.

In Science, we are looking at Living things this half term. The children have been looking at grouping living things and this week we have been using classification keys.

A huge well done to our Golden Certificate Winner, Tyler. He is an excellent member of Sycamore Class and always happy to help. He persevered in his maths this week until he got it right.

Have a great weekend.

Sycamore PE

Hello everyone,

It has been great to see everyone this week. The children have made an excellent start to their time in Year 4.

For this half term (up to October half term), we will have PE on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please can children come into school wearing their PE kit. Just a gentle reminder that all jewellery must be removed before anyone takes part in PE, as per our School PE Policy. This is due to health and safety and guidance we have received from the Association for PE Teaching. Earrings must be removed – they cannot be taped over. We advise that earrings are removed before school so that they are less likely to get misplaced or cause difficulties being when being removed.

Thanks for your support,

Mrs Brunyard and Mrs Fairclough
