Welcome to Sycamore Class, it’s been great to see everyone after the summer. All the children have settled into class well and are getting used to routines and expectations.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Alfie S for a super start to Sycamore Class. He has been a great role model showing active listening and working hard.
As part of our new school year, we have already created a Sycamore Class Charter and voted for our school council and UNICEF Ambassadors. These will be shared next week.
PE will be on MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY UNTIL HALF TERM.
PE kit needs to be a plain white T-shirt, dark blue or black shorts/jogging bottoms and trainers. Their jumper or hoodie also needs to be plain dark blue or black. If these are not available, children should wear their school jumper or cardigan. Children must remove any earrings before taking part in PE.
Today, we have been going through our spelling pattern for our spellings next week. The children will be given a paper copy each Friday to practise at home, ready for the test the following Friday. Spellings can also be found on the website in Sycamore spellings.
The children have already been enjoying our guided read book ‘Into the Volcano’ and have been predicting what they think will happen next.
We hope you all have a great weekend.

I would just like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all of the children and parents/carers that have made my first year at Crowmoor so special. I have loved teaching Sycamore class. We have had some brilliant laughs, good experiences and some special memories. I will look back on this year and smile. Thank you for your continued support and my lovely gifts – you have no idea how much it means to me. I wish all the children lots of luck for next year. I just know you will all achieve great things in Year 5. Have a lovely summer holiday!
Miss Shadbolt 🙂

Yesterday, the children really enjoyed making Tomato Bruschetta in Design and technology. We were very impressed that they tried all the ingredients and used the bridge technique to cut the tomatoes.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Tyler. He demonstrated the bridge technique to cut his tomato really well in D&T. Tyler has also been trying hard with his reading. Well done!
This week we have finished our work on Limericks in English. The children have planned, written and performed their Limerick. Noah wrote a fantastic Limerick and today received a certificate from Mrs Davies. Well done, Noah!
Today in RE, we have been looking at Christian, Hindu and non-religious weddings. The children enjoyed finding out what happens at different weddings and shared their own experiences of weddings.
Next week we have sports day on Tuesday morning, starting at 9:30am. Please can the children come into school wearing their PE kit (they can wear a top supporting the colour of their house). Thank you.
We hope you have a great weekend.

This week the children have enjoyed watching the petals change different colours after we put food colouring in the water. Yesterday, we dissected a flower to look at part of a flower and talked about pollination.
In English, we’ve started to look at limericks. We have looked at and read through a variety of limerick poems, researched rhyming couplets and talked about rhyming patterns and rhythm.
In Maths, we’ve started our new topic position and direction. We have been reading and plotting co-ordinates, drawing 2D shapes on a grid and looked at how to move along a grid.
Our Golden Certificate winner is Isaac. Isaac has slowed down with his reading and is now reading more fluently and showing good understanding of what he has read. He has also been trying hard with his spellings and got 10/10 today.
We hope you have a nice weekend.

This week has been assessment week where the children have been busy doing maths, reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar, and writing assessments. In Maths, we have also finished our work on statistics by drawing line graphs, and in English we’ve been editing and writing our historical stories.
In Science, the children have enjoyed looking at how water is transported in plants. The children worked in groups to act out how water is transported and put food colouring in water to show this process.
Our Golden certificate winners this week, are Indie and Jake K. Indie has really stepped up these last few weeks and Jake has been working hard, building his resilience and been a super supportive friend. Well done Indie and Jake.
We hope you have a great weekend.

A huge well done to the children who have competed their multiplication check this week. They have all tried hard, and did their very best- they should be proud of all they have achieved. We are very proud of them.
In English, the children have been looking at fronted adverbials and short snappy sentences used for effect. Today, they have researched about the Tudors ready to plan and write their historical stories next week.
In Maths, the children have looked at properties of a triangle, quadrilateral and polygon. Today, we looked at lines of symmetry.
This week in RE we have continued to look at milestones and those for Christians. We looked at infant baptism, confirmation and believers baptism. We also talked about milestones that we have had which the children loved to share.
In Science, we’ve talked about what plants need to grow and have set up an investigation to see what will happen if they have no light, heat or water.
The children have also loved looking at strawberries as part of our DT project this afternoon. The children carefully looked and drew the inside and outside of a strawberry and then got to try some.
Our Golden Certificate winner this week is Omar. He was a fantastic researcher in English today, where he found out about clothing worn during the Tudor period. Omar is also an excellent role model to his peers. He always tries hard, listens and is well behaved.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
