Sycamore Class Newsletter 6.1.2023

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

We hope you all had a great Christmas. Thank you for all the Christmas wishes, cards and gifts we received.

We have had a short but busy first week to start our Spring Term.
The children all thoroughly enjoyed their first Swimming lesson in Year 4 this morning. Our Golden Certificate this week goes to Theo who tried his best to swim, and persevered even when finding it hard. Well done Theo!

Our Topic this term is Ancient Egypt and the children have brought home today their homework for this half term. In Literacy, we created questions we want to know about Egypt and have looked at the process of mummification. In Art, we followed instructions to make salt dough to make our Egyptian Scarab Beetle Amulet.

In Maths, we have been continuing our multiplication and division unit. We have been learning factor pairs of a number. The children have been enjoying doing our cracking times tables. Remember to keep practising those time tables at home.

In PSHE, we have been talking about the Rights of the Child. Ask your child if they can tell you about all the rights they know.

We hope you have a great weekend.

Well what a busy term it has been. A great week to end it with our Carol Service, Christmas activities and a visit from Santa.

This week we have been finishing our lights in DT, talking about what Christmas means to us and others and looking at our British Values.

Our Golden Certificate Winner is Jake K. Jake is always eager to contribute to class discussions and his hard work has shown this term with the progress he has made, especially reading and times tables. Jake has also impressed us in DT to create his light. Well done, Jake.

Well done to all the children for a fantastic first term in Year 4. We hope you have a lovely Christmas and a well earnt rest, and come back ready to learn in the new year.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mrs Fairclough, Miss Shadbolt and Mrs Davies.

The children all looked great dressed up for Children in Need today.
Today has been a fantastic way to end our friendship week. The children have enjoyed decorating our class door, creating posters about standing up for others and finding the odd socks that have been hidden.

Today we talked about ‘Reach Out’. We talked about bullying and if we or others were being bullied when we would reach out, who we would reach out to and how we would reach out to help others who were being bullied. The children loved using their hands to create pictures to show this.

This week in Literacy, we have been writing and editing our character descriptions of Sir Captain Thomas Moore. The children have been using adjectives to describe his appearance, actions and personality.

In Maths, we have been looking at our 3, 6 and 9 times tables and multiplying and dividing by 7 and 11.

In Science, we have been looking at reflection and yesterday we planned and carried out an investigation to see which material reflected the most and least light.

Our Golden Certificate Winner is Kayla. She is a fantastic member of our class who always tries hard, helps others and is a good friend. Well done Kayla.

Hope you have a nice weekend,

Mrs Fairclough, Miss Shadbolt and Mrs Davies.
