Sycamore weekly newsletter

This week was an extremely tough but thoroughly enjoyable one. All of the children were brilliant in the performances of “Ye-Ha” but it all came together on the night.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, children and parents of Crowmoor for their support, guidance and encouragement over the last 3 years. It is with a heavy heart that I move on to my new school, but I will take many fond memories with me.

I am sure the children will continue to go from strength to strength with Mrs Jones and I wish them all the best for their futures at Crowmoor and beyond.

Sycamore Weekly Newsletter

This week has been British Science Week

We have been very busy conducting lots of investigation along the theme of exploration and discovery. We have been using our Science topic of States of Matter to help us. The children have found that gases have weight, the water cycle is an endless loop and that we all have a part to play in saving the environment by using computing software to identify penguin populations.

Sycamore newsletter

This week in Sycamore class we have been doing some problem solving around money. We have also spent some time on our Topic work, researching the journey of a river and finding out interesting information about famous rivers. The play is coming along nicely and the children are working very hard to learn their lines.

Thank you to all of the parents/ carers who came to see me this week for parents’ evening.

Please continue to support with times tables practise and listening to the children read.

Golden certificate winner is Malikaa.

Sycamore weekly newsletter

We have had another busy week in Sycamore this week. In literacy we have all written our own information texts and presented them using the key features we found. In maths we have been telling the time and solving problems related to time. Our time with Shrewsbury Town in the Community has come to an end and all of the children achieved promotion to the Reading The Game Champions League.

Please help your child maintain their reading during the break and allow them to access Mathletics or NumberGym whenever they can.

Golden certificate winner is Kimmy Lee.

Sycamore weekly newsletter

This week has been very enjoyable in Sycamore class. In literacy we have been drafting and editing our Aboriginal tales, which have all turned out brilliantly. In Maths we have compared fractions and decimals as well as finding fractions of amounts. We have been doing lots of research on Australia in our topic work, ready to use in our new literacy topic, information texts.

The children once again showed great progress when Coach Neil visited from Shrewsbury Town in the Community, both in the classroom and on the playground during P.E.

Golden certificate winner: Lilly-Ella Walker

Please continue to support us by practising times tables and by listening to your child read for 5  10 minutes each night. This will help build solid foundations to make excellent progress throughout the rest of the year.

Sycamore class newsletter

This week has been another busy and action packed week for Sycamore class. We have continued with our Reading The Game project with Shrewsbury Town FC as planning our own Aboriginal tales in literacy, explored decimal equivalents for common fractions in maths and made our own string telephones in science.

Please can I ask that you continue to hear your child read every day (if possible) and sign their reading record.

Times tables practise is also essential in order to help the children progress with the other areas of maths we study. By the end of Year 4 all children should know and recall their times tables up to 12 x 12. The children have a crib sheet in the back of their homework books to help.

The Golden Certificate winner is Ben Lewis for always showing a “can do” attitude and never giving up, even when he finds things difficult.

Sycamore newsletter w/c 1/1/18

Welcome back. I hope you all had a very enjoyable, relaxing and merry Christmas. Although this week has been a short one, we have been hard at work. In maths we are starting on fractions and decimals, a difficult topic to grasp, which should take about 3 weeks. In Literacy we are exploring the Aboriginal Dreamtime. There are many stories about how things came to be and we will be using these are a starting point before we write our own stories.

P.E will continue to take place on Thursday, in school, and Fridays at the swimming pool.

Any problems, questions or queries, please grab me on the playground or give the school a ring.

Sycamore weekly newsletter w/c 11/12/17

Although we haven’t spent a great deal of time in the classroom this week, the children have applied themselves very well. They have finished their stories set imaginary worlds and have written winter simile poems.

I hope the children enjoy Christmas and get everything they have asked Father Christmas for. See you in the new year.
