Good afternoon!
Had a lovely week in Elm class. We have really enjoyed coming into school in clothes that make us happy for mental health week. We had a long chat about mental health and how it is important to talk about all emotions both happy and sad. The children all came up with some great ideas about how we can stay happy and healthy. For example, getting good nights sleep, eating well, being with friends and family and talking to trusted adults.
In maths, we have finished our block of multiplication and division. The children have really grasped the idea of grouping and sharing and have worked super hard on their 2,5 and 10 times table. English has seen us look at the features of, plan and write our own newspaper reports. The children have all written an article for the “Crowmoor Chronicle” about the Twits and their terrible antics. In science, we looked at food chains and discussed the importance of nutrition to survive. We looked at animals being omnivores, herbivores and carnivores. Some of the children were shocked to discover they are omnivores! In art, we did sketches of a hedgehog. We learnt how to sketch and shade.
This week we have listened to the children read and done a quiz to determine their book levels. We have given the children all a new book to read over the half term please read with your child and note down how well they read. This will help us to see that they are well suited. Reading challenge for the half term:
1x read – 2 raffle tickets, 2x read – 3 x raffle tickets, 3 x read 5 raffle tickets, 4x read 7 raffle tickets, 5x read 10 raffle tickets, 7x read 20 raffle tickets!! The children can read their school books and their books at home. To count, it needs to be recorded in the yellow reading record.
Have a lovely half term. Can’t wait to hear all about the fun things you all do.
See you on the 19th.
