The children in Willow enjoyed writing their ‘Planet Unknown’ stories – the idea of this story writing was to assess whether the children are putting recently learnt grammar techniques into practise. Prior to this piece of writing we revised when to use paragraphs and we revised using Standard English ensuring we remain in the correct tense.
In maths, we studied how to read and interpret the data in timetables then we moved onto calculating the area and perimeter of compound shapes, the area of triangles and finding the volume of shapes.
In RE, we discussed what we think Heaven is and compared it to how other religions view their version of Heaven. We completed a comprehension in two small groups and discussed exam technique and how to locate the clues within the text and how these relate to the question. We also did a similar activity with a Maths Reasoning Paper. In IT, the children carried out some personal revision using BBC Bitesize – this is a great resource and will help your child with areas they may need a little more support. The site is accessible at home by putting ‘Bitesize’ into the Google browser; select ‘English’ or ‘Maths’ then select the topic of interest.
We marked homework and more has been set. If your child has missed previous homework I recommend they complete it as it will only assist/benefit them in the long run.
In relation to our preparation towards Coronavirus; we have learnt how to wash our hands properly (using the 13 steps as per NHS guidelines) and we conducted two experiments to show how sneezing can spread germs and how germs on our hands can be passed on; this highlighted the importance of using soap and washing hands, when appropriate/necessary.
Have a great weekend.
