Chestnut Newsletter 15.9.23

Posted on 15th September 2023 by Mrs Dowell

This week we started by using role play to explore the feelings and emotions in ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes. All the children labelled an image of Dogger and wrote sentences to describe him. On Thursday they applied these skills to their own soft toy. They were very excited to bring their own soft toy to school! Next week we will rewrite the story of Dogger using our own characters instead.

Our Reading Practice Sessions have started and this is recorded in their yellow Reading Record. More details will be sent home over the next couple of weeks.

The children will all bring home a free reader book which they can chose from the book corner in class. This is a book that they have picked to share with you at home, please enjoy this story time together.

In maths, we have been counting on and back from a number within 10 – not just starting at zero. Children have also found one more and one less than a number within 10. Please help your child by regularly asking them any of the questions below:

  • What is one less than…?
  • What is one more than…?
  • What number comes after…?
  • What number comes before…?

During our geography lesson we have looked at maps of the local area noting the symbols for churches, railways, shops and schools. Some children found the road that they live on and could see the route to school.

Have a fabulous weekend,

Mrs Dowell, Mrs Armstrong and MIss Harrison.
