This week we have shared a new book; ‘Peace at Last!’ by Jill Murphy. We have found sound words throughout the book and learnt to identify verbs in the text. Verbs are a word used to describe an action. e.g. run, walk, sleep, play… Mr Bear could not find any where peaceful to sleep! Mrs Bear was snoring, Baby Bear was playing, taps were dripping and hedgehogs were snuffling.
All the children have completed their first phonics assessment. Please read a little and often with your child to help them to become fluent. They must read a word, sentence and page more than once until they can read without stopping to sound out. The books are closely matched to their phonics knowledge.
In maths we have been learning the bonds of numbers up to 10 and writing a matching number sentence. Next week we will introduce subtraction to find a missing part. 5 = 3 + ?
The children have shown their understanding of everyday materials and their properties. They can sort objects and materials in different ways and explain how they have done this.
Travelling Ted is enjoying his travels around Shrewsbury. The children are very excited and look forward to finding out who is going to take him home for the night. Each of the children’s names are written on a lolly stick and I pull one out of the pot completely at random so everyone will have a turn to entertain Ted. It is a big responsibility which everyone has taken on brilliantly. Ted’s travels link to our geography topic about the local area.
Thank you for supporting the school’s uniform policy, including the PE kit that the children wear. They all look very smart! We have a few spare jumpers and cardigans in school to help out when needed.
Have a fabulous weekend,
Mrs Dowell, Mrs Armstrong and Miss Harrison.
