Please find some sheets with alien and real words on for you to practise with your child. Your child should sound out the graphemes and then blend them together to read the word. For example ph-o-t-o = photo or c-l-ou-d = cloud

We have had a lovely week writing about the tiger who came to tea using ‘and’ to join sentences and ideas. Today the children wrote about their likes and dislikes of the book, again using conjunctions to link sentences. Next week we will be changing the story slightly to a different animal.
We we’re lucky we went on our Spring walk around the school grounds on Wednesday while the weather was warm and dry. The children enjoyed finding signs of Spring and exploring.
Today it was lovely to see everyone in their red, white and blue clothes with their amazing crowns. It was also great to see so many families at the picnic. The weather was a shame, but everyone had lots of fun.
Have a lovely weekend!

We have had a great week working on adjectives, describing the characters and setting of our class text. The children have all worked hard towards their writing targets. Next week we will continue with our story, writing out the main events and adding detail.
In maths we have been learning how to make and add equal groups. We have done this using patterns in egg boxes and bun trays. This is ready for our work on multiplication.
All of the children enjoyed our dip and dipper testing afternoon on Thursday and some were very surprised at the dips they actually enjoyed. We will be designing our own dips very soon.
Your child has come home with a piece of card to make a crown to wear for the Coronation afternoon. They can bring their crown into school from Wednesday next week.
Enjoy the weekend

It was lovely to see all the children and hear their news after the Easter break. Everyone has settled back into our class routines and is working hard. This week we have started work on our new class text ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. We have mapped out the story and done some role play to help us learn the story. We have been looking at adjectives and how they enhance the story language. We will be adding adjectives to our own writing.
In Maths we have begun our work on multiplication. We are looking at counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Please support your child with this at home, by counting and singing songs (we have learned a couple in class)
In the coming week we will be tasting dips and dippers, please let me know if there is anything your child is allergic to.
We have reminded the children that they still need to practise their phonics and read their reading books each night. Please help them to do this as a little practise makes a huge difference.
Thank you and enjoy the weekend

The children have had a great week preparing for their Easter break. We have finished our Lost and Found Polar Bear stories, using some super vocabulary. Everyone worked hard to ensure they used their neatest handwriting, remembered capital letters and full stops and we even had some exclamation marks too!
Our maths has been all about measuring length and height. We have compared objects and ourselves using mathematical vocabulary. We have measured using objects and centimeters and have really improved our accuracy.
We had a great time at the Easter disco and were very lucky to have all recieved an Easter egg from the Friends of Crowmoor. We were impressed with the effort that went into all of the entries for the Easter competition.
Children will come home with sheets to practise their phonic knowledge over the break. Please also read regularly as a little practise really does make a big difference.
Enjoy the holidays

This week we have been busy checking our phonic knowledge, reading skills and writing independently. Everyone has worked hard and tried their very best. We have also been planning our own lost and found stories ready to write them next week. We have taken time to consolidate our maths work and to practise our number bonds.
We have had fun learning about hot and cold climates and the animals who live there. We have mapped the climate zones, used compass directions and identified continents. We are proud of how well we have remembered the two hemispheres. We have linked our knowledge of Polar regions to help us with this weeks work.
Well done to so many children for reading each night and practising their phonic sheets. It really is showing in the children’s progress.

Wow! What a strange week. I know we were all excited for some snow to play in, but I don’t think we expected quite so much. I hope you have been able to have lots of snowy fun. Send your photos to chestnut@crowmoorschool.co.uk so that we can share them with your friends.
In the few days we were at school, we had a busy time retelling our class text – ‘Lost and Found’, using story language and hot seating the characters. We will continue this next week and look at definitions of some of our interesting words from the text.
In Maths we have continued to learn about place value to 50 and how numbers are made up. We have been making numbers, finding one more or one less and ordering within 50.
In Science we are continuing to learn about plants and their life cycle. We will be planting seeds and exploring the school grounds as part of our work.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend and don’t forget to read and practise your phonics!

Happy half term! We have had a great few weeks enjoying our Polar topics. We have finally completed our letters to Felicity Aston and a select few have been sent to her. We hope to have an answer to our questions next half term. We will be writing our own stories when we get back to school, so make sure you read each day and get some ideas.
in maths we have been using counting on and back to find the difference between numbers. We found this tricky to begin with but are gaining confidence constantly.
Please help your child to practise their phonics using the sound mats we sent home earlier in the week. This will really support them during our phonics check next term.
On Thursday 2nd March it is World Book Day. Your child can come to school dressed as their favourite book character. We look forward to seeing all of their favourites. The costume does not have to be shop bought. We enjoy seeing home made costumes and the delight the children have in making them. You can find lots of ideas online.
Enjoy the half term week!

This week we have been learning how to write letters. We have learnt about the features of letters and when people write letters. We have decided to write to Felicity Aston, a famous Polar explorer. We have lots of questions we would like to ask her about her solo expedition across Antarctica.
We have made sculptures using cubes in the style of Brendan Jamison. He used sugar cubes to make his sculptues. We had lots of fun making sculptures of schools, hotels, towers and football grounds.
In science we were thinking about our senses and how they help us to understand the world. We went outside on a listening walk and decided that when we were outside we were using all of our senses. We could hear the birds and cars. We could see the trees and other children. We could feel the cold air and breeze. We could smell someones cooking and we could taste the fruit we were eating while we were enjoying our walk.
Your child will bring home a new sheet of real and alien words to practise sounding out and blending. Please help them with this.

What a busy week we have had and a trip too! We have completed our penguin fact files and will be bringing them home to share with you tonight. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we have enjoyed learning about penguins. Some of the sentences we have practised as a class and others we have written independently. We have great knowledge about penguins and it was lovely to see them on our trip.
At the Sea Life centre we saw lots of different fish and sea creatures. We were treated to a lovely time by the otters, who were playing and showing off to us. We had a fantastic time walking through the tunnel, watching the rays, sharks and the giant turtle swimming around us. We were able to touch the star fish in the rock pool and crawl through the clownfish tunnel. All of the children were very well behaved and we are proud of them. Members of the public commented on how polite and sensible they were!
Each child will come home today with a page of real and alien words to practise sounding out and blending to read. For example w-ai-p = waip. Please help your child with this activity and practise throughout the week. We will send another set next Friday. Incase they are lost here is the sheet.

This afternoon we have been making sculptures using plastic spoons, elastic bands and cups in the style of Jill Townsley. We had great fun, but it was a little frustrating too!
