The week has flown by and we are now ready for the SATs. They start on Monday and end on Thursday. We have Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling on Monday, the Reading Paper on Tuesday then the three Maths papers on Wednesday and Thursday. The tests last for approximately 1 hour each. The children have worked so hard – I haven’t set any formal homework as I would like to see the children refreshed and ready to tackle the papers next week. All children know their strengths and weaknesses in the two subjects and as a result they could revise the areas they still feel they would benefit from a little more study. Our ‘Class Member of the Week’ goes to Lewis – well done. Have a super weekend and please ensure your children get a couple of good night’s sleep.

The penultimate week before SATs start… the children continue to work hard and we have covered some of the areas they feel they need more help with. We appreciate there is a clash in dates between Arthog and the Secondary Induction date and we are trying to arrange alternative Induction sessions – details to follow. In Literacy, we have concentrated on grammar, punctuation and spelling and in Maths we have studied angles within a triangle and using a protractor. We will continue with an intensive revision week, next week, to help ensure children achieve the grade they are capable of, in the meantime, please ensure they have fun and relax over the Bank Holiday weekend. Our ‘Class Member of the Week’ goes to Sienna. Have a great long weekend.

We are fast approaching SATs – in three weeks they will all be over! The children are continuing to work desperately hard and I am impressed with their levels of revision and commitment. We have looked at 2D and 3D shapes, symmetry and reflection in Maths and in Literacy we have continued with our discussion study. The children have created a couple of balanced discussions around topics that interest and they have had chance to successfully use the techniques and key features found within the genre. Some children represented the school, and our class, in an external Orienteering Competition – well done Will, Sienna and Annabelle. We are due to go to Theatre Severn tomorrow (Friday) to learn more about the Bookfest 2018 nominations and celebrate with the winning author. Our ‘Class Member of the Week’ goes to Mia. Have a super weekend; fingers crossed for good weather.

What a scorcher it has been this week; it is great to see sunshine again. It was good to welcome the children back after a restful Easter break. Our class attendance has been particularly impressive this week and we have covered so much. We have had two PE lessons, both relating to fielding and batting and the children have started a new unit in PSHE. In Maths we looked at BODMAS and averages and in Literacy we have looked at debates and balanced viewpoints. Homework has been marked and more has been set. We have three weeks left prior to SATs then we have SATS Week itself followed by an exciting but far more relaxing Arts Week. Our ‘Class Member of the Week’ goes to Ollie. Have a super weekend.

A short but enjoyable and productive week. We have now finished our Science Workshop at Belvidere and all rockets were launched! In Literacy we tried to locate the murderer of the ‘Spag Bol’ critic; clues were given and deductions made! We briefly looked at ratio in Maths and will progress this area early next term. We have marked this week’s homework and more has been set. The SATs start w/c 14th May so we have four full weeks when we return in the Summer Term – we’ll continue to work hard, in preparation. This week’s Class Member of the Week goes to Ashleigh. Have a great and relaxing Easter holiday.

We have now completed our half termly assessments and I can clearly see areas we can celebrate success and areas where we will concentrate on between now and May. The children continue to work hard and I will continue to motivate them in terms of completing homework – their extra efforts are paying dividends. We will be offering a Holiday Booster Club in the second week of the holidays. All are welcome and the sessions will run from 09:00-12:00; details will follow next week in the form of a letter with permission slip. Please encourage your child to bring the slip home should they forget! Our ‘Class Member of the Week’ goes to William. Easter Competition entries are being judged by the Mayor next Monday; entries encouraged and welcomed. Have a great weekend.

This week has flown; only two more weeks until Easter. We’ve had another busy week… in Literacy, we are about to complete our Journalistic study and in Maths we have looked at algebra and related formula to area of shapes. In Science, we have made our rockets and will test fly them a week on Wednesday. We studied the life and works of Steven Hawkin and reflected on his resilience and outstanding contribution to physics. We have also started our ‘How we see’ unit. Please book a time to see me if I haven’t had chance to celebrate and discuss your child’s achievements and please also ensure your child complete their homework – the sat revision booklets are for their benefit and if they don’t complete the work set they are missing out on an important, valuable and independent learning opportunity. Our class member of the week certificate goes to Matthew. Have a super weekend.

It was great to catch up with so many parents and to celebrate the hardwork of the class. We are now into the last two months prior to SATs; it is an important last final push but I will try to alleviate stress and make the time as enjoyable as possible. Your children are working so hard and we will all breathe a sigh of relief when they have finished. In literacy we have progressed our study of journalistic writing and in maths we have looked at time and reading timetables. Next week we have a gymnastic session in addition to our normal PE and on Wednesday we return to Belvidere for the second session of our rocket workshop. Our class member of the week certificate goes to Sarah. Have a super weekend.

Another busy week. In Literacy, we finished our poetry unit and have started our journalist study. In Maths we have looked at more measures and on Wednesday we went to another great Belvidere Science practical workshop where we learnt about rockets and made some in groups – session to continue and a competition to follow! Well done to everyone with regard to their fantastic World Book Day outfits; they were the best I had seen for some time. Ben wins our ‘Class Member of the Week’ certificate and Carmen won the ‘Best Outfit’ for World Book Day. See you at Parent’s Evenings next Monday and Tuesday; in the meantime please stay warm, safe and enjoy the snow.
