Good afternoon, we have had a busy week and we have set a few new routines into the class. First thing in the morning is our quiet reading time when they will read to an adult, independently or complete an Accelerated Reader Quiz on the book they have read. I was very pleased with their reading assessment scores, they will need to work hard to maintain this throughout Elm Class!
Congratulations to Luna and Jacob on being voted the Elm Class School Council Representatives. I’m confident they will take an active role in the School Council meetings and feed back to their class mates.
Well done to Orla who won the Golden Certificate last week, she has made an excellent start to Elm Class and always tries her best in every lesson.
This week’s Golden Certificate Winner is Oscar who is listening to feedback about how to improve his writing and is now leaving spaces between words, making his writing easier to read, well done!
All the children will be bringing home a ‘free choice’ book which they can share at home. This may be too easy or too difficult for them to read alone and that is okay. The aim is for the children to enjoy sharing a book with their family at home. We usually spend time changing this book a couple of times a week. They are extremely pleased if they find a book with my name written in the front, they know that they are extra special!
We have been writing descriptions of the settings in the book ‘Where the Poppies Now Grow’. There have been some very contrasting ideas to match the mood of the book. They are very interested in asking questions about what it was like to be a soldier in the trenches of World War 1 and we have written these in a letter to Ben and Ray. Next week they will learn a little about Sir Walter Tull.
In maths, we have been concentrating on partitioning two digit numbers into tens and ones and then in different ways. For example: 32 = 30 + 2 and 32 = 20 + 12. Next week we will be comparing numbers by looking at their properties: How many tens? How many ones? How is 53 different to 35?
Please remember that PE is on Mondays AND Tuesdays until half term.
Thank you for your support,
