We have had a positive start to the Spring term in Chestnut Class and all the children are working hard.  Our main focus in writing is to use capital letters, spaces between words and finish sentences with a full stop.  This week we had an exciting delivery! When we opened it we found a penguin.  We have named him Pip and have had lots of fun finding out about Emperor penguins.  We have written about penguins and have even had a go at a penguin huddle.Next week we will be looking at the environment of the South Pole.

In Maths we are learning about and using numbers to 20.  We have been making numbers in different ways using straws, cubs, hands and drawing.  We have also used our knowledge of numbers to 10 to help us.

In Art this week we looked at the work of Marc Quinn and we made our own hand sculptures out of salt dough.  This was tricky as some of us have really warm hands and the dough got quite sticky!  next week we are looking at the work of Michelle Reader and we will be making Box Monsters, please could you send your child to school with a small empty box by Thursday as we will be making our monsters on Friday.

As part of our topic work we are learning about Polar Explorers and how different Polar expeditions were in the past.  The children were fascinated by the courage and determination of Earnest Shackleton.
