I continue to be impressed with the amount of knowledge the children are absorbing about World War 1, they really are like little sponges! This week we have learnt more about the role of women during the war. We imagined what it would be like to work in a munitions or textile factory. Some children though it would be fun to be a railway worker changing the points to make sure the trains went to right way!
Well done to Declan who won the Golden Certificate for the writing he did at home about World War 1. It’s always great when the children take it upon themselves to extend their learning at home!
In literacy we have started to gather information about British nocturnal animals. We have found verbs and adverbs in the text and used those to write our own sentences. Next week we will start to use commas in a list and to join our sentences with subordinating conjunctions (what, when, if, because).
In maths we have begun our unit of Addition and Subtraction by focusing on number bonds of 10 and how they link to the number bonds of 100. If I know 6+4=10 then I know 60+40=100. Ask your child about a ‘Fact Family’, they should be able to show you! We have also been learning our times tables facts by looking at flash cards out of order. The children will need to memorise these so that they can recall the facts instantly. Please give them all the help you can.
To help us make sure we’re providing the best standard of education for your child/children, we’d like to know how you feel about our school. Today, your children brought home a questionnaire to be completed and returned to school. However, if you would rather complete it online, please click on this link:

You can contact me via the class email address elm@crowmoorschool.co.uk. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Parents’ Evenings in a couple of weeks’ time. It will be great to have these back in school so that you can see your child’s books.
Have good weekend,
Mrs Dowell and Mrs Armstrong
