Another unique week. I hope you haven’t gone too stir crazy staying at home. I have been working from home, setting a little work (on top of that already set, see the ‘Class Homework’ page) and I have been in school for a couple of days. These are bizarre and unprecedented times.
I read recently that there are children still meeting friends and playing out. If you see any children playing out and not where they should be please politely advise them to return to their homes. The police can now give immediate fines to parents and if the children are caught out of the home a further time the fine amount increases significantly. The children that play out are at risk of spreading the virus further and when they return to the home there is a far higher chance they will pass it on to other more vulnerable family members.
If you are in receipt of Free school Meals or Pupil Premium then please remember you can pick up a pack lunch for your child – ring the office if this isn’t something you have yet done.
I added homework to the website last week and this is the work until the end of what was the Easter Holiday. I also appreciate that some children will be bored so each week I will add further optional work that will keep their maths, reading and punctuation skills current. Your child is due to start their new school in September; it is imperative that they continue with the work I have set. If they don’t they will fall behind and struggle in Y7. Obviously, the work I set is predominantly revision of the skills we have learnt in Y6 or earlier years. At some point I will set work that the children haven’t yet covered; when this is the case, I recommend they go on YouTube, BBC Bitesize or use their revision guides to support the process.
Don’t forget the work that was set in the children’s green books. They should have enough to keep them occupied for some of the day at least. Copy of work sent: Work for Year 6 Corona – Edition 1.
I understand that your child will need access to the internet and perhaps, in some cases, the only internet-enabled device in the house. If this is the case, I apologise for them ‘hogging’ the tablet, laptop etc. As always internet safety is a prime concern; I recommend you supervise your child whilst they look at websites to aid their homework and for entertainment purposes.
I will put the answers to this week’s homework on the ‘Class Homework’ page later today.
Your child could enjoy the following:

BBC Newsround is updated three times a day now and is a safe channel for your children to catch up on the news.
When I find more sites of interest I will publish them on the ‘Class Activity’ Page.
Keep safe and please stay within the boundaries of your home going out once a day maximum to exercise, shop or pick up medication.
‘Speak’ again soon.
