What a great start to the year we have had! All the children have settled into their new class very quickly. They are getting used to the routines and the more structured approach to learning in Year 1.
We are building onto their phonics knowledge that they learnt in Reception with an increased focus on reading fluently and with prosody (expression). Pupils are learning the importance of reading the same sentence over and over again until they can read it fluently without the need to sound out any of the words. Every Thursday they will bring home a book that they have read throughout the week. Please enjoy listening to your child and ask them lots of questions about the text. These books must be returned on the following Monday ready for a new book.
It is important that every child has their reading book and yellow Reading Record in school everyday!
In maths we are concentrating on the numbers up to ten: counting on, one more, counting back, one less and how to make up each number in different ways. This includes learning to read and spell number words.
Please look out for our Curriculum Overview giving more details about the topics we are learning about this term.
