Chestnut Class 15.11.24

We had a wonderful Monday afternoon on our Autumn Walk around the school. All the children were able to spot signs of seasonal changes. We found some sleepy minibeasts and made sure that we put them back into their habitat. It was great to get outside in the sunshine for science!

Our book this week has been 'The Highway Rat' by Julia Donaldson. As with most of her books, the children enjoyed the predictability of rhyming words and joined in with telling the story from memory. We have written a setting description using adjectives to describe nouns.

'They went down a dusty bendy road. There were old crooked trees and huge grey boulders.

We always look forward to a new book on Mondays!

In maths, we have completed our first block of Addition and Subtraction within 10. Next week we will be learning about 3D and 2D shapes through lots of practical tasks and activities.

Phonics has been challenging this week. We have learnt new split digraphs. The vowels are separated by another letter.

a-e as in cake

i-e as in like

o-e as in home

u-e as in cube or rule

We are really pleased with the progress the children are making in their reading, please keep supporting them by listening to them read little and often.

Some children may have mentioned Mr Jones. He has just joined Crowmoor and is working across the school. At the moment he is helping Chestnut Class with reading, Music and Geography on Wednesdays.

Have a fabulous weekend,

Mrs Dowell, Mrs Armstrong and Mr Jones
