The children had a great week this week reading the story 'The Great Explorer' about a young boy called Tom whose dad got lost in the North Pole and he went on a great adventure to find him. They drew and wrote about Tom, different ways he could travel and what else could have been in the cave he found.

They loved pretending to be explorers themselves in our small world area, rescuing people with helicopters and aeroplanes and also in our outdoor area, searching for animals, mapping their journeys and drawing some of the things they found. They also explored colour mixing, creating their own versions of the Northern Lights.
In Phonics they learnt the last two Phase 3 sounds 'er' and 'air' (these have been added to their sound bags) and the tricky words sure, pure and are. They also completed their Spring 1 assessments. We will spend next half term consolidating these sounds and learning to read longer words. They are working on their 'automaticity' to read more words automatically, without sounding out, so need to keep reading as often as they can to support this. Well done to Poppy, Ivy, Ellie and Olivia who all completed their 5 home reads this week and won a prize from our lucky dip box. It would be great to see more children winning prizes next term.
In Maths we spent the week learning about mass and capacity, exploring and comparing weights and capacity by measuring how many cubes objects weighed and how much different containers held.
In PE they continued to work on their ball skills, developing their passing and shooting skills, working in a team to pass to eachother and score goals. There are definitely some budding footballers in our class!
PE will continue to be on a Friday next half term. Please ensure your child attends school wearing their PE kit rather than their uniform that day.
We hope you have a lovely half term week and look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 24th February.
