This week as well as paying our respects on Monday for Remembrance, the children have been investigating the wonderful season of Autumn!
We read the story 'The Leaf Thief' about a very confused squirrel who thought someone was stealing all the leaves from his tree. The children drew some great squirrel pictures and had some great ideas about how they would catch the leaf thief - including chasing them in a fast car or aeroplane, catching them in a net or a huge sticky spider web and throwing them in jail!
In phonics we learned the next 4 sounds v,w,x and y. The children have found these a little tricky to pronounce correctly, so please encourage them to practice and remember to use the pure sounds videos that can be found here:
New sound cards will be added to the children's bags on Monday so please ensure they have them in school, along with their reading books and records. Thank you.
In Maths we have been learning to recognise and represent numbers 4 and 5, talking about how we know it is that number. We have also revisited subitising, talking about what we can see, rather than just giving an answer e.g. I can see 3 dots and 2 dots so it is 5. Next week we will continue to work on this as we spend some time exploring the composition of these numbers.
The children have created some lovely artwork this week, mixing Autumn colours and creating pictures with leaves they collected on their Autumn walks. We didn't find many nuts from any of the many trees we have around our outdoor areas so we think the squirrels have been very busy hiding them away already!
We have also begun practicing our Christmas Nativity play - Christmas Counts - ready for the 5th of December. All the children have chosen their parts and we will be sending a note home this next week to let you know what part your child will play. We do have outfits in school so there is no need to buy anything. We only ask that children come to school wearing plain clothes on the day of the performances and will let you know whether this needs to be dark or light clothing depending on the role they have chosen.
If you have any queries about this or any other area of your child's learning, please feel free to message me on the class email beech@crowmoorschool.co.uk
Have a lovely weekend.
