Hello,
many apologies for not posting last week! However, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in and around school. The children have made their “Reindeer” Christmas cards- one of which came home and the other will be sent, anonymously, to someone who may need cheering up this Christmas.
During our maths lessons the children have used the grid method to calculate multiplication sums with 2 by 2 digits. They completed their work by using the method to calculate multiplications using decimals- it has to be one of the easiest ways so please ask them to show you how.
We have started making our design and technology projects – moving toys with cams, sliders, followers and levers. We have had a great time and they are well on their way to finishing them. Each step is logged and will be the basis for our explanation writing.
The children are learning a Christmas song ready for you all- hopefully it will be posted on our class page soon.
A huge well done to Molly Edwards our “Golden Certificate” winner this week. Please see a very proud Molly below.
The children have been romping through their diplomas awarded for knowing their times tables. They have not had spellings list this week, we will complete them in school. I have reminded them again the process I would like them to use to help them remember them – Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check – which they have used throughout the school. It is essential that they use this method as the concept to learn is “a little and often,” not trying to learn off by heart or to spend a long time cramming lists. We will practice the method again next week.
We have welcomed Miss Allison to our Year 5 Team this week, she will work with us over the next two terms.
Finally, have a very restful weekend – I hope there isn’t too much snow as I would like my son to be able to drive home safely for his Christmas holiday away from university. Stay safe and well, Mrs.P x
