Hello Everyone,
we have had a very busy two weeks! The children have written their very own Ancient Greek Myths, they are currently editing their myths. They have begun a new unit in maths: they are now adding and subtracting decimals.
Congratulations to Paige for winning the Golden Certificate this week for her work on decimals; also to those children – Maddie and Issy who have gained their 20 Quiz Certificates for reading.
We are really enjoying our class story, “Who Let The Gods Out!” by Maz Evans. It really is a super story.
The children have been learning a song from the Sixties ready for the Jubilee Picnic on Friday – it would be lovely to see you their and to share the afternoon together. Oak Class have been telling me all about the fancy dress from the Sixties they would like to wear. Here are a few ideas…
I’m sure you have lots of ideas of your own. My goodness, these remind me of my Mum and Dad! I’m sure it will be a super time. Make sure you send in your favourite cake recipes so that we can start compiling The Crowmoor Platinum Jubilee Cake Celebration Book.
Yesterday The Community Health Nurses visited school to talk about mental health and well-being with the children. The key was to say that many feelings and anxieties can be quite normal. They had some super suggestions for the children to try to use to build resilience; we have talked about them in our PHSE lesson too. MAGIC = Mindfulness, Active, Generous, Interest and Connect. We spoke about what each of these words would stand for. The children then talked about what made them happy and we popped them in the “Happy Box.” Not the children but their thoughts! If you evoke a happy memory it can really help to calm and relieve anxiety.
The children have a spelling list in school – more “OUGH” words – and will receive another one for homework on Monday. The test will be on Friday as usual.
Next week we will be creating a class portrait of the Queen, designing a card and also a paper plate for the celebrations. I’m sure we will be very, very busy.
Have a super weekend, from Mrs.P, Mrs Brunyard, Ms Nicholas and Miss Hipkiss.
