Well Happy New Year and Happy New Term to you all! What a brilliant first week back we’ve had. It’s been so lovely to see everyone after the Christmas holidays and the children were SO excited to tell us all their news! We made some very exciting discoveries in the classroom and outdoor area this week and had a super start to our new topic of Land of the Giants! We have been talking about what we already know about dinosaurs and what we would like to find out. We have also started to look at some non-fiction books from the library to find out more and Y1 have been identifying some of the features of non-fiction texts.
In Maths Reception have been learning about zero and consolidating their understanding of 5, through talking about subtraction songs, comparing numbers and looking at equal and unequal groups. Year 1 have spent the week improving their problem solving skills, particularly when subtracting and comparing who has ‘more’ as this was something they all found a little tricky in their assessments before the holidays.
In Science we have started to explore materials and will be learning about their properties, which will help us with our upcoming D&T project to make a suitable container for keeping a dinosaur egg safe – just in case we find some more! 🙂
We had a great time this afternoon testing eggs and seeing how resilient (or not!) they are to being rolled and dropped on different surfaces.
For the next few weeks the children will have an additional PE session on MONDAYS with the Sports Coach from Shrewsbury Town so children should come to school in their PE kits on Monday AND Tuesday every week until just before half term.
Please also ensure the children have their book bags with their reading records, reading books and sound cards in with them every day. If any of these need to be replaced please contact Miss Jones (hollya@crowmoorschool.co.uk) or Ms Roberts (hollyb@crowmoorschool.co.uk) and we can arrange this for you.
We are aware that a few people have been having some difficulty accessing the children’s Nativity video from before Christmas. Instructions were put on the class page on the last day of term on how to access the video via Microsoft Stream – please click here to read them: How to watch the Christmas productions If you are still having issues accessing it please see your child’s class teacher.
For children who are well, but isolating due to COVID, please access the remote learning timetable at the bottom of the class information page Holly Class Information which will ensure they are covering what they are missing in class. If you have any issues accessing this or have any queries about the work set please email your child’s teacher.
Have a lovely weekend.
