What a busy week launching our ‘Superheroes’ theme with the story of ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra. As well as learning the story and choosing their favourite parts or characters, the children have been thinking about what superpowers and equipment they might need if they were a superhero. We have also shared ideas about what other things in the world we feel are ‘Super’, such as real-life superheroes, people at home or school who help us and of course many aspects of nature – wild animals, insects and trees to name but a few!
The Reception children are working on Phase 1 of Letters and Sounds in their Phonics sessions, playing with rhymes and listening for sounds in words, particularly identifying initial sounds or orally blending a word e.g. we say c-a-t the children say cat! Playing silly rhyming games and practising oral blending helps to prepare children for reading when they start to learn letter sounds later this term.
In Maths Reception have been matching and sorting, talking about what’s the same or different and Year 1 have been recapping their knowledge of 1 more/less, counting backwards and forwards from different numbers and practicing their recording.
All the children’s books have been changed today ready for the weekend. They all have one Phonics Bug book for reading (wordless books for storytelling for Reception children) which will be changed on Tuesdays and Fridays after at least TWO recorded reads, and then another ‘free-choice’ book to share with you at home which they can change themselves whenever they would like to.
Please remember if you have any non-urgent queries, please drop us an email at either hollya@crowmoorschool.co.uk for Miss Jones or hollyb@crowmoorschool.co.uk for Ms Roberts. All urgent messages must be addressed to the office via phone or email.
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Jones, Ms Roberts, Mrs Kearney, Mrs Millichamp & Mrs Kenny.
