This week we have had a fun time investigating lots of science! Thank you for the donations of jars and materials, it was really helpful.
Today we had to say good bye to our chicks. The children have really loved watching them develop. They were starting to flap around a lot so it was definitely time they moved on!
We have made a wormery which should let the children see what worms do under the ground, they’ll have to be patient!
We have found out that toothpaste protects an egg shell from vinegar in the same way that it protects our teeth from tooth decay. The egg in the vinegar is almost transparent with not much shell left.
The children had a great time making a container to protect their egg when it was dropped from the height of 1m. I’ve never seen so much mess in the classroom, there was stuff everywhere – great fun! You’ll be relieved to hear we could test our containers outside as not all of them were successful. Better luck next time!
We have also found out that increased gravity increases the distance travelled but increased friction decreases the distance.
