This week the children have really enjoyed learning some poetry off by heart. They have studied Poems by Christina Rosetti who lived in the Victorian times. Please ask them to recite the poem to you! Next week we will write our own version of a poem based on the structure of one that we have learnt.
‘Ferry me across the water,
Do, boatman, do.’
‘If you’ve a penny in your purse
I’ll ferry you.’
‘I have a penny in my purse,
And my eyes are blue;
So ferry me across the water,
Do, boatman, do.’
‘Step into my ferry-boat,
Be they black or blue,
And for the penny in your purse
I’ll ferry you.’
We have started to make tallies and pictograms in maths, and to ask and answer questions about the information. We are still learning our times tables and practising them out of order.
In art, we learnt about Vincent Van-Gogh and the painting that he did called ‘Starry Night’. We created our own version using oil pastels. Later, we will add silhouettes of a city landscape.
I am still very impressed by how much knowledge the children have of The Great Fire of London. We are now enjoying a dance unit based on the main events. They are learning to put moves into a sequence and to remember these to tell a story.
Have a fab weekend, please keep reading!
